  7. Abstract:
  8. In new method of performance-based design, the behavior of structure during earthquake is considered more realistically, and applying damage parameters like plastic ductility and inter-story drift to determine the seismic performance of structures is suggested. Damage indexes, the contribution of damage parameters to damage capacity of structural members, are defined to specify damage level of each element. In addition, damage spectrum which is the diagram of values of certain damage index versus natural period of single-degree-of-freedom system will be useful to seismic assessment of existing structures and seismic design of new ones. By the way, endurance time (ET) method can be effectively used for dynamic analysis and damage calculation of structures. In ET method, a structure is subjected to a pre-produced intensifying accelerogram, and its response is evaluated at different time of excitation.
In this research, damage spectra relating to ground motions (GM) and ET acceleration functions are induced and compared, then the excitation duration of ET records (target time) is modified to reach acceptable consistency between ET and GM damage spectra. Moreover, a number of regular and irregular steel moment frames with flexible and stiffened panel zones are modeled, and damage indexes of their elements are calculated under GM and ET records. Afterwards, the accuracy of ET method as well as influence of modifying target time on damage estimation of steel moment frames are examined. By the way, capability of damage spectra in damage prediction of the mentioned frames, and the procedure of improving modified target time considering the fundamental period of frames will be illustrated
