Abstract
Real-time operating systems (RTOSs) have been widely used in the design of nowadays embedded systems; however we discuss in this thesis that RTOSs can impose considerable energy and time overhead. In this thesis, we analyze the impact of three existing and commonly used RTOSs (µC-OS II, Keil-OS, Emb-OS) on the energy consumption and real-time behavior of embedded systems. We have chosen these RTOSs because of their use in deeply embedded systems that are the dominant application of embedded systems.
