  7. Abstract:
  8. In recent years, in Iran, like other countries tall buildings have been constructed as a solution to space limitation problem and modern architectural matters. By increase in building height, the flexibility against wind force increase, therefore necessitating the study of buildings behavior against wind force. Traditionally most of the research done, have dealt with performance of the buildings, probability of the failure, and the serviceability level all of which relates to the amount of force in elements, the stress existing in the structure, and the amount of displacement. A substantial factor in structures, especially in tall buildings, is the comfortability of their occupants which directly depends on floor acceleration that on its own requires investigation. Both the section and the shape of a building play an significant role in it against the wind force. Therefore research works on this subject appear to be necessary. This thesis consists in two parts. In the first part, shapes proportional to tall buildings, which are also beneficial both economically and in execution are studied. The other part is devoted to determination of habitability and occupants‟ comfortability in tall buildings with outrigger having different shapes and height. There exists many simulation work on the shape applied to tall buildings by numerous researches. These works studies varieties of shapes applicable to tall buildings by simulating them in wind tunnel. The structure response with respect to displacement, drift and acceleration against wind load has been tested. To evaluate degree of habitability and occupants‟ comfortability and also determine the impact of outrigger in tall buildings and optimum position of outrigger with respect to building height, models with nonlinear dynamics against wind load and earthquakes are analyzed. These models are each simulated separately with respect to the position of outrigger to best assess the impact of outrigger position. Comparison of results which are done in wind tunnel showed circular section to be the best and most suitable aerodynamically against wind force for tall buildings. However buildings with square section with chamfered corners which are aerodynamically and executively suitable were proved to the best section where is tapered, we achieve improved results in our observation. Results of simulated models also show that the square section with chamfered corners have less fluctuating and response. According to this result with increasing of height, impact of outrigger will decrease and we also conclude that optimum position of outrigger is approximately in the middle of buildings height
