  7. Abstract:
  8. understanding basin’s sediment transportation forms and river’s bed erosion in next years in addition to rivers’ response to watershed upstream activities, gives useful information to relevant experts for fundamental studies on expanding of development projects in neighborhood of kan River. This project is an effort to assess the amount of sediment production of Kan River’s basin using SWAT, modeling calibration by using measured data with SWAT-CUP and also prediction of river’s response to watershed activities in modeling river’s sediment in next years by using HEC-RAS. Several management approaches in different scenarios has been studied in order to control the sediment production and evaluation of degradation of river. In this thesis, the status of basin regarding amount of sediment has been assessed. The SWAT calibration model evaluated that the amount of sediment in Kan River’s basin is 24870 ton (which is equal to specific sediment production 115 ton in km2 in year) and it was identified that Rendan’s sub-basin has the most major role in producing of sediment. In next step SWAT’s results imported to HEC-RAS as an input and both sediment transfer and bed erosion modeled and predicted for next years. The amount of degradation of river in a year in time period of next 8 years has been assessed to be 77070 ton. Moreover the amount of sediment production of this basin using observed data in time period of recent 30 years , showed the number 192850 ton(which is equal to specific sediment production 890 ton in km2 in year) in year, which has a big difference compared to sediment production in past years(years after watershed management activities). Thus it can be concluded that by doing watershed management activities the amount of basin’s sediment decreased from 192850 to 24870 ton in year. Hence river’s response to reduction of sediment density with increasing the power of degradation of river presented in this project. Thus doing aimless watershed activities is not a good idea and we should put a limit on that. Finally after evaluating different scenarios in order to control the basin’s sediment the best way is to build a dike in basin’s neighborhood. Using this method in appropriate regions in basin neighborhood causes the reduction of 19.9% and 10.2% in amount of sediment production and degradation, respectively
