With increasing concern of environmental protection and economic considerations, Wind energy has drawn much attention recently due to its high benefits to the reduction of emissions and reduction of dependency on fossil fuels. In this paper, a load dispatch model is developed for the system consisting of both thermal generators and wind turbine by GAMS Software and the recently introduced optimization strategy, Imperialist Competitive Algorithm (ICA). In addition, transmission loss is considered which approximate the system losses as a quadratic function of the real power generation with B-losses coefficients. To better represent the conditions in real power systems, the cost of modern thermal units with multiple valves is considered. For solving optimization problems, when the statistical data is not enough to support stochastic optimization, scenario analysis is one of the common methods. The performance of the proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to a 30-bus system. The total results show that ICA is a powerful and reliable tool for solving complex optimization problems. Comparison of results with those of other methods proves the effectiveness of the proposed method with regards to minimizing both the total cost and execution time
