  7. Abstract:
  8. Magnetic flux leakage is one of the nondestructive testing methods used for ferromagnetic segments. The basis of performance of the magnetic flux leakage nondestructive testing is such that the ferromagnetic segment will be led to magnetic saturation by a powerful magnetic field, and if there was defect and decreasing in cross section, the segment's capability of transmitting magnetic flux will be decreased and therefore, some of passing magnetic flux from the under testing segment, will be leaked to the surrounding area. So the amount of magnetic flux leakage can be a criterion of existing defect in the segment. To estimate sizing of the defect, it's necessary to study the ingredients which have effects on magnetic flux leakage. For this purpose, the equations governing the defect finding system of magnetic flux leakage have been studied firstly. After that, because of the problems related to analytical solving of these equations, the electromagnetic potential function has been proposed, which is used in numerical solving of these equations by finite element method. For solving the electromagnetic potential function, ANSYS software has been used. In the following, magnetic flux leakage produced from some defects with regular and irregular flaws have been simulated to be closed to real circumstances and effective ingredients on magnetic flux leakage has been studied till we can achieve an appropriate estimation of location and sizing properties of defects, by considering these ingredients
