  7. Abstract:
  8. Pile is used to transfer high loads from the structure by bearing on the hard soil layers or through the friction between the soil and the pile. Axial loads and transversal or lateral loads are the main loads apply on the piles. There are several different methods to investigate the pile behavior under lateral load: (1) Limit State method (2) Subgrade Reaction method (3) Elastic method (4) P-Y method (5) Evans and Duncan method (6) Numerical methods. Blum, Brinch Hansen and Broms methods are based on the Limit State method to determine the lateral capacity of pile. Although these methods are simple and the results can find quickly, they failed to calculate the soil resistance under lateral loads. In the Subgrade Reaction method soil is modeled as a discrete springs with a linear constitutive model. While the soil is continuous and nonlinear. In the Elastic method soil is modeled continually but the soil constitutive model is elastic. Although, the continuity and the nonlinearity of the soil is considered in the P-Y method, this method cannot consider the influence of some parameters such as: variation in soil elasticity and coefficient of earth pressure. The Evans and Duncan method also considers the continuity and the nonlinearity of the soil. In addition, this method is easy to use and can be calculate lateral load capacity of pile without using computer codes. But this method is only available to long piles in a homogenous soils. Numerical methods can model the continuity and nonlinearity of soil with three dimensional boundary condition. It can simulate different kinds of soil with different kinds of pile. This thesis is about Parametric Study of The Piles Behavior under Lateral Load in Clay Soil, Sandy Soil and Soil Layer .To outline of the work presented in this study is the following: part 1 presents the verification models to investigate the accuracy of the iwans and dunca’s assumption. Part 2 presents the parametric study of pile behavior under lateral loading in layered soil, clayey soil and sandy soil by Flac 3D software. This parametric study includes pile diameter, pile elasticity and cohesion and friction of soil. The results are shear force and moment diagram of pile with its deflection
