- In recent decades due to declining reserves of fossil fuels on land and in shallow water areas, exploration and exploitation of oil and gas from deeper seas and oceans are rapidly making progress and since there are huge volumes of oil and gas reserves in deep waters of the Caspian Sea bed, in order to fulfill the purpose of oil exploration and exploitation in all sectors of the Caspian Sea, it seems mandatory to study in the field of platforms required for use in this area. One of these platforms is Tension Leg Platform with mooring lines called tendons that directly connected to the seabed. High axial stiffness makes this type of mooring lines constrained the vertical degrees of freedom while the horizontal degrees of freedom will be flexible. In this study, performance of Tuned Liquid Column Damper (Liquid Column Vibration Absorber) as a passive structural control system to reduce the dynamic response of surge degree of freedom under wave load, evaluated and analyzed experimentally and numerically. Mitigation of platform response under wave load is important since wave load is the dominant environmental load in seas and oceans and reduction in response amplitude of platform cause reduction in stress range in tendons and therefore increases the fatigue life of mooring lines. The results indicate that using the aforementioned damper in reducing the surge response of Tension Leg Platform within normal waves with the classic concept of the Tuned Mass Dampers hence adjustment of the damper frequency to the structure frequency, doesn’t have efficiency
