  7. Abstract:
  8. In this study, the zirconia antistatic coating was synthesized by dip coating sol-gel route on glass substrate. The solution contains ZrCl4 as precursor and isopropanol as solvent to synthesize zirconium oxide. The effects of environmental humidity and solution concentration on the coating characterization were analyzed. MPTS and primer binder were added as binding agents in the solution to observe the effect of binding agents on the coating adhesion. Solution stability and antistatic coating characterization were analyzed by zita potential test, FTIR spectroscopy, EDX analysis, FESEM and AFM microscopy, pencil hardness test, thickness test, antidust ability and spectrophotometer. The solution stability for the solution which contains ZrCl4 and ZrCl4+ MPTS was -10 mv and -18 mv respectively. FTIR spectroscopy showed the compounds of ZrO2 and ZrO both in solution and antistatic coating. The Wt% of Zr in the coating was varied and has a direct relationship to ZrCl4 concentration in the solution. The FESEM images were observed in 2kx, 10kx and 50kx. These images showed that the thickness of the ZrO2 fibers were increased by decreasing in the ZrCl4 concentration in the solution. Due to the increase in the hydrolysis rate, thinner ZrO2 fibers were formed by increasing the environmental humidity during the dip coating process. The optimized coating was derived in 25% humidity from the solution which had 0.15 gr/lit ZrCl4. This coating had a good transparency and uniform microstructure with low porosity. It had 52.5 nm thickness, 3H adhesion, 16.5 nm roughness, 99% efficiency in antidust properties. It also was a good UV ray absorber
