  7. Abstract:
  8. Shape memory alloys (SMA) are materials with shape memory effect and high recentering capacity. Recently, application of SMAs in building structures and for the purpose of structure control during earthquake has been considered by many researchers. Researchers have tried to reduce the residual displacement of the structure after earthquake and also increase the dissipated energy by using this material in different forms such as wire, spring, bolt, etc.. In this research the seismic performance of steel structures equipped with SMA connection has been studied, considering the soil and structure interaction. The purpose of this research is to investigate the amount of required SMA bolts in each connection in steel frames in order to improve its seismic performance. In this regard, using various steel structure models with 6 and 9 stories, the number of connections equipped with SMA and also the required amount of this material in each connection has been studied for optimal structural response. In addition, the effect of soil type and the soil-structure interaction on the behavior of the considered structural models have been investigated. In this study, the structural modeling and nonlinear dynamic analysis was conducted using OpenSees software.
