  7. Abstract:
  8. The demand for electrical energy is increasing. The main source of energy at this moment is fossil fuels. High price, great amount of pollution, uneven distribution and global warming are major disadvantages of fossil fuels. Using renewable resources can tackle these issues. Hence, the demand for renewable energy are highly increased. The wind energy is one type of renewable energy. Increasing the wind power penetration impairs the functionality of power system and causes the environmental issues. In order to have a stable power system this effect should be investigated thoroughly. Due to the inherent uncertain characteristics of wind energy, it is desirable to determine the characteristics of wind energy. The main pillar for predicting wind power is using Wind Turbine Power Curve (WTPC). Wind direction and its variation has great impact on output power. In former researches this was neglected and wind power is calculated only based on the wind speed. In this investigation wind direction has been included in wind power equations. The most common equation for wind power calculation is quadratic polynomial power curve. This equation is modified based on wind direction and accordingly a new approach is proposed for wind power calculation. The proposed approach functionality is verified by real data that reached from wind turbine output in khaf. Economical investigations based on proposed approach are done in four regions which are affordable to have wind farm. The region which is economically beneficial is determined. In this investigation, also effects of wind power variation caused by wind direction and its variation on reliability indicators and power system risk are investigated. these studies are done in both of planning and operation phases. The RBTS test system which is modified by adding wind farm is investigated and studies are done based on this system
