  7. Abstract:
  8. Fuel cell is a very attractive technology for clean electricity production and has a wide range of applications from industry to transportation and power generation. There are several issues that prevent the development of this technology widely. Rapid degradation of fuel cells during operation is one of them. Online monitoring of operational parameters in order to control and optimize the effective variables of power generation and life of the fuel cell considered as an important way to mitigate fuel cell’s degradation. In this research, a set of models were developed to calculate the voltage, current, corrosion, as well as the fuel cell system state variables instantaneously. Two robust frameworks created by these models: Monitoring- Control framework and degradation framework. Monitoring- Control framework calculate unmeasurable variables a do a condition monitoring to inform opertor from the PEMFC’s state of health, Degradation framework predicts systems' lifetime by estimating degradation rate of membrane and catalyst layer. In this thesis, The results show that the optimum temperature for 1kw PEMFC and a current density of 0.6 (A/cm^2 ) is 360 (K). At this temperature, total energy produced by the fuel cell will increase up to 10 %. This total energy increment can reach above 20% at higher current density
