- Abstract:
- In this article we have investigated an inventory control model with uncertainly in supply and capacity constraints in the volume and variety of goods for supply chain of chain toy stores. The purpose of model is to minimize inventory costs, ordering cost and the cost of shortage to develop an acceptable customer service level. In order to execute replenishment process of goods we propose three periodic review inventory control policies that are implemented automatic, step by step and by using indicators defined in this article. The major difference between the proposed policies and the as-is policy is to use categorization od goods based on specific characteristics. Each of the three policies first sets the appropriate inventory level for each category and then assign the order quantity to reach that inventory level inside of each category. To compare this policies, a case study was conducted on a toy company with 2660 SKU, 126 suppliers, a distribution warehouse and three retail branches. Six period data that occur in reality was compared to what was produced by these policies. The analysis of the result shows that the apparent characteristics of unpredictable demand in the retail industry exert specific condition for toy industry inventory control policy that it is proved of conquering the existing policy against our proposed policies by increasing the impossibility of delivery goods from the suppliers. We also conclude that one of the most important factors affecting the performance of proposed policies is the selection of appropriate attributes for categorization
