  7. Abstract:
  8. The main objective of this study is a numerical simulation of flow and mixing behavior of two miscible liquids in a new static mixer over the Reynolds number in the range of 20-160. The performance of the proposed static mixer has been compared with the well-known three different static mixers namely, Kenics, SMX, and Komax. Pressure drop ratio (Z-factor), a coefficient of variation (CoV) and extensional efficiency (α) characteristics were, respectively, used to evaluate power consumption, distributive mixing and dispersive mixing performances in all static mixers. Since there are no experimental data for examined mixers, firstly, the CFD model was validated with measured data of the pressure drop ratio across a Kenics mixer and coefficient of variation in a static mixer equipped with some baffle form elements. The numerical results were found in a quite good agreement with the measured data as well as available correlations in the literature. Then, the investigation was extended to the rest of the mixers. It was revealed that the proposed mixer has superior performance in comparison with the others. Finally, by using three dimensionless variables including operating and geometric parameters of the Reynolds number (Re), blade thickness per tube diameter (t/D), and length of the mixer per tube diameter (L/D), a new correlation for prediction of pressure drop ratio was developed for the new mixer
