  8. Abstract- Due to vulnerability of metallic structures to fire, to have an advance estimate of the behaviour and performance of the structure during fire, can greatly assist the designers to make preparations and take precautionary measures to prevent excessive damage to the building. The study of the behaviour of a structure at high temperatures can be divided into two parts, that of its members, and that of its joints. The survey of the literature reveals that most of the previous work concentrated on the former, and it seems that there has not been much work on the latter. The objective of this project was to study the behaviour of structural joints at elevated temperatures, in general, and that of a special joint, developed by the supervisor of the project, in particular. Moreover, the behaviour of two single-span frames, fitted with the devised joint, subjected to fire was studied as well. Furthermore, the combined effects of fire and earthquake on one of these frames were studied in a simultaneous manner. As expected, these studies showed a sharp drop in the strength of the joints, reaching the order of approximately 75% at 600° C. However, the initial stiffness of the joints seemed not have been much affected as a result of the increase in their temperature, highlighting the fact that the modulus of elasticity of steel is less influenced by a rise in its temperature, compared to its yield stress
