  7. Abstract:
  8. Polymeric microspheres which can load biomolecules, proteins and growth factors play an important role in tissue engineering and drug delivery systems. The size of the microspheres and encapsulation efficiency exert a considerable impact on the usability of them. In this study double emulsion method is used for fabrication of microspheres. Effect of different parameters namely the speed of homogenization, time of homogenization, the amount of polymer in oil phase, the surfactant concentration in different phases on the size and surface morphology of the microspheres are investigated. Moreover, a release test for BSA loaded microspheres is conducted. Results indicate that by increasing the amount of polymer and decreasing the speed of the homogenization the microspheres’ size increases. Sharper microspheres’ size distribution results in more predictable drug release and performance of the spheres which is a significant matter in mass production of microspheres. In this regard, microfluidics based droplet fabrication methods are powerful methods, because, they provide a sharp size distribution of microspheres. However, the speed of fabrication in these methods are low. In this study, we proposed a fast method of fabrication which produces nearly sharp distribution of particles by integrating the conventional double emulsion method and a microfluidics channel
