  8. Excessive water production is one of the common problems during oil recovery that causes the production to decline, the operating cost to increase, and the well to shut in. The heterogeneities such as fractures in the reservoirs causes waterfingering and decrease waterflood efficiency, recovery factor and increase production costs and lead to high watercut. On of the methods used to prevent producing undesireable water from reservoirs is using Preformed Particle Gels (PPGs) that is known as plugging agent. These particles are injected into the hydrocarbon reservoirs and plugged the flow of water and prevent the production of water.In recent years, it has been recognized that the use of pre-made gels is one of the most effective methods to overcome the conformance problems in reservoirs.In the first part of this study, we performed static tests in laboratory and examined the effect of different factors such as time, salinity, temperature, ionic strength, ionic competition on the swelling ratio of PPG. These results, in addition to the novelty, were also used to describe and better understand the dynamics section tests.In the second section, we conducted dynamic tests on glassbeads micromodels.First, we obtained the properties of each micromodel, such as permeability and porosity. Then, we examined the efficiency of PPG injection in terms of its effect on reducing water production and, consequently, increasing oil production, in different scenarios of experiments. We used 3 different micromodels for dynamic tests:
    1. Homogeneous micromodel
    2. Layered Micromodule
    3. fractured micromodel.
    The use of a micro-model in this study has resulted in a complete and wide view of how PPG works in the presence of water and oil phases. During the dynamic tests, the reduction of water production with the fluids production graphs, the increase of oil production with oil recovery charts, as well as some other parameters related to the performance of PPG, were illustrated and investigated by fluid injection pressure graphs.
    Using the figures in this section and the images obtained from the tests performed in the micromodels, we investigated the efficiency of the PPG injection as well as its performance in waterpath plugging and flowpath diversion into the unswept area. The efficiency of PPG injection in micromodels depends on several factors such as salinity, PPG concentration, ion type in solution, and so on
