  7. Abstract:
  8. "Programmable networks" are to facilitate and evolve the computer networks. Specifically, Network Defined Software (SDN) is an advanced and innovative solution in the new computer network in which the hardwares are completely independent of the control and decision regarding data transfer. Based on this logic, network management becomes much simpler and enables innovation and new solutions for different parts of the network. In SDN, the program or network intelligence is logically present in software-based controllers (on the control panel) and can be changed and programmed, and network devices are converted into network packet sending hardware (on the data page) through an interface, Such as OpenFlow. In an SDN, the control plane or network OS is separated from the forwarding plane. Normally, the network OS monitors and controls the entire state of the network from a central point, such as routing protocols, access control protocols, network virtualization protocols, power management, and new network features. The network OS controls the forwarding plane via a narrow, vendor agnostic interface (OpenFlow) which defines the low-level forwarding behavior of each forwarding element. For example, OpenFlow defines a rule for each flow; if a packet matches a rule, the corresponding actions are performed (e.g. drop, forward, modify, or en-queue).In this thesis, we have considered traffic engineering problem in data center networks with big flow applications based on the capabilities of SDN. Our main goal is to design a flow level traffic engineering method to optimize the applications performance and network utilization. The performance of the proposed method will be evaluated through simulation using one of SDN simulator such as Mini net.
