  7. Abstract:
  8. In the present work, nanocomposites consisting of nickel oxide nanostructures and a hollow carbon substrate were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode's surface for the electrooxidation of hydrazine hydrate. For this purpose, hollow carbon nanospheres were first synthesized using aniline and pyrrole copolymerization process without any template needing. The hollow carbon nanospheres prepared by this method have outstanding features such as high specific surface area and good stability. On the other hand, they did not require toxic and environmentally harmful solvents to remove the template. In this study, after preparing hollow carbon nanospheres as a suitable substrate, different nanostructures of nickel oxide were grown on the carbon substrate by hydrothermal method. Finally, these nanocomposites were used for electrooxidation of hydrazine hydrate. To study the morphology of the prepared modifiers, techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used. The obtained SEM and TEM images confirmed the hollow structure of the carbon substrate and the uniform growth of nickel oxide nanostructures on the carbon substrate. Also, to study the modified electrodes' electrochemical behavior with the prepared nanocomposites, cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used. To further study, the effect of various parameters such as electrode modifier droplet volume, potential scan rate, and hydrazine hydrate concentration was also investigated. Electrochemical studies showed that the NiO nanowires grown on the surface of the hollow carbon substrate (NiO-NWs @ N-HCNSs / GCE), has a larger available surface area and better catalytic activity for hydrazine hydrate oxidation. This better catalytic activity can be attributed to the uniform growth and good adhesion of nickel nanowires on the carbon substrate and the strong synergistic effect
