  7. Abstract:
  8. The results of the conducted research indicate that although there is a period of time for pedestrians to cross the street safely at signalized intersections, some pedestrians cross the street when they find a space between the passing cars even though their traffic light is red. This behavior has caused a great increase in the number of pedestrian accidents. Understanding pedestrians’ behavior can be helpful in reducing these types of accidents. In order to analysis the pedestrians behavior while crossing the street two types of data were collected; a field questionnaires and a concurrent video image recordings of the pedestrians crossing the streets. The 435 questionnaires collected social-societal factors are categorized within 4 major groups and in order to extract the actual behavioral habits of the pedestrians, video recordings of them have been collected. The data modeling was done considering human factors (psychological, perceptional, analytical and motivational) involved in their behavior while crossing the street in conjunction with the video recordings. The results indicate that 4 behavioral factors indicated by the pedestrians which are law awareness, focus, preference of public transportation, and minding the manners have a direct effect on the observed behaviors. This means that the questionnaires were accurate and the participants were honest while answering them
