  7. Abstract:
  8. Acceptance of new technologies in an industrial field generally takes a long time, and needs accelerators and facilitators to be thoroughly and truly understood, accepted, and then implemented. One of the most useful accelerators is Feasibility Study, which help the specialists to be confident that the whole technical and economic aspects of the issue are considered in an overall view and the technology is totally feasible and beneficial.Managed Pressure Drilling which was introduced as a new technology to drilling industry internationally in 2003 and developed rapidly till now, is one of the most useful technologies in the oil and gas wells drilling industry, and helps the Operator Companies to Save Costs, Enhance Hydrocarbon Production and Reduce Risks in an expensive and daily basis expenses industry. Despite abundant advantages of this helpful technology, it has not been utilized and developed in Iran, the world's most prominent oil and gas reserves owners, yet. This thesis intended to study the feasibility of utilizing this technology through one of its applications, which is drilling High Pressure and High-Temperature wells, in Iran.In this feasibility study, a stage-gate model is defined, including Market Analysis, Technical Feasibility and Economic Feasibility, so studied the technology utilizing feasibility accordingly. First, the technology market is studied by analyzing its international market, then the Middle East market and finally the Iran market potential. When the market demand is found to be acceptable, the next stage had begun. In the second step, the Technical Feasibility regarding the Availability, Compatibility, Complexity, Reliability and Risk Assessment had been studied and found it technically feasible. In the last step, the Economic Feasibility of this technology studied by a daily basis Cost-Benefit model is accomplished. Finally, a software-base model in COMFAR had been run for all three categories of engaged companies including National Operator Companies, International Operator Companies, and Service Companies point of view and a Sensitivity Analysis on the critical elements had been done
