  7. Abstract:
  8. Nowadays, power systems are facing significant changes in traditional network operation and planning approaches with the introduction of distributed generation energy sources and increasing concerns about environmental issues. On the other hand, the Distribution Management System (DMS) in the current situation with low levels of observability and automation, controls and monitors the distribution network, which will not meet the challenges of the Active Distribution Network (ADN). For this purpose, in the first part of this dissertation, considering that the supply of network loads is important from the operator and distribution network management point of view and the voltage range and active power of network nodes are important in achieving this goal, so an active power sensitivity analysis has been done and based on the determined sensitivity criterion, the placement of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) in order to perform the state estimation operation in the distribution network with appropriate accuracy, and with the aim of minimizing the number of PMUs, has been done. On the other hand, Increasing the penetration of renewable resources in the distribution network can affect the operating conditions and reliability of the system, especially the network line loadings. Therefore, in the second part of this dissertation, the monitoring of network line loadings, which is one of the applications of the state estimator output results, has been studied. If the state estimator results dont have proper accuracy, the calculated line loadings will not have proper accuracy. Therefore, in the next step in this dissertation, has been tried to place the PMUs in an optimal way and with the least number, so that the state estimation operation in the network performed with appropriate accuracy and minimize the amount of not supplied energy of network consumers due to incorrect estimation of line loadings. Finally, all the above are implemented and tested on the 77-bus UK test distribution network, and the results are thoroughly studied and analyzed. According to the results, it is observed that by placing the PMUs and improving the accuracy of the state estimation process, the costs of compensating for active power accuracy in the network are reduced and on the other hand, with more accurate line loading calculations, the not supplied energy of network consumers is also reduced
