Hydrodynamic Circuit Modeling of Surge Control System of a Centrifugal Compressor with Variable Gas Combination to Combine an Active Surge Control System with Surge Avoidance System

  8. In this research, first, the performance map and surge line of 46M6 and 46MB8 multi-stage radial compressors, which have 6 and 8 stages, respectively, have been estimated and invarianted. Invarianting the performance map makes the performance curve and surge line of the compressor, unchanged from input conditions, including molecular weight, which is very important for control systems. Then, the hydrodynamic circuit of Compressor System C-3002 of Nouri Petrochemical Company was modeled according to the characteristics of its components by solving equations in MATLAB software. main working condition of the hydrodynamic circuit is close to Start of Life operating condition which has a molecular weight of 11.2 kg / kmol and a design point with a working speed of 6762 RPM, 5009 kW and 6998 kW power for low pressure and high pressure compressors, respectively, 17.6 kg/s mass flow rate and 8 absolute bar and 23 absolute bar pressure at the discharge of low pressure and high pressure compressors, respectively. The compressor system under study includes only anti-surge systems with a recycle valve; as an innovation, a cylinder-piston system was added to this system and its performance was examined by modeling. At the end of this study, the modeling results showed that for working conditions of Start of Life, using a cylinder- piston system which has a cylinder with an inner diameter of 30 cm and a length of one meter can stabilize the operation of compressors in the unstable hydrodynamic region. Then the combination of cylinder-piston systems and anti-surge system was modeled and its performance was investigated; So that if the cylinder-piston system suddenly fails, the anti-surge system will activate immediately and after about 0.5 seconds will be able to control the surge
