  7. Abstract:
  8. A company's knowledge is one of its most valuable assets. In this regard, project-based companies operating temporarily with constantly changing project members try hard to manage their knowledge, an important asset that also provides them with a competitive advantage. One of the biggest challenges of project-based organizations is how to facilitate the processes of sharing knowledge which enables the organization to capture and implement its knowledge successfully. In this study, the governance mechanisms of innovation ecosystems are used to support the effective use of knowledge-sharing mechanisms across projects and subgroups of the organization. This study analyzes Kayson holding as its case study. In this thesis, a combination of knowledge sharing and governance mechanisms of innovation ecosystems is proposed by simultaneously examining these two approaches to improve knowledge-sharing processes. The data was collected by interviewing leading experts and professionals at Kayson, reading documents, and exploring the Kayson website.According to the findings of this research, current knowledge in Kayson is primarily codified in terms of the degree of articulation, and a small part of that knowledge is personalized. Further it was determined that due to the unique nature of Kayson projects, knowledge personalization mechanisms should be used in the holding along with codified mechanisms so that individuals can share their expertise and provide solutions tailored to particular projects based on their tacit knowledge. With regard to the degree of aggregation, Kayson’s knowledge is organizational, which is appropriate due to its large population and geographical distribution. Therefore, the point that attracted the most attention was determining how organizational knowledge should be managed in Kayson. Because Kayson holding is categorized as an innovation ecosystem, the governance mechanisms of ecosystems could help manage this knowledge dimension, the organizational aspect. Since all knowledge processes are formalized and structured at Kayson, the governance mechanisms used in this holding are hierarchical. However, it appears that due to the unique nature of the projects, hierarchical mechanisms are better to be replaced by collectively coordinated mechanisms, which are appropriate for large subgroups of Kayson, and self-coordinated mechanisms for small subgroups of Kayson
