The surge phenomenon, as the most important aerodynamic instability, has caused a severe drop in efficiency and performance in centrifugal compressors, and its prevention and control is considered one of the main concerns of industrialists. The purpose of this study is to design and develop a surge control system in order to improve the stability and safety of the system under the effect of surge. In this research, after simulating the existing control system and working line in Borzouyeh Petrochemical Industry, by designing and adding the piston surge active control system to the above centrifugal compressor and using the combined control system, the flow rate of the bypass path has been reduced. And the role of the surge avoidance system has been minimized. In the next step, the surge avoidance system is placed as a back-up system so that when the active surge control system does not have the ability to control the surge for any reason, by changing the control system, the surge is controlled and possible damages are prevented.Due to the fact that in the compressors in Borzouyeh Petrochemical, the composition of the input feed is not properly considered in the design of the condensation and surge control system, with the decrease in the molecular mass of the working fluid from 11.2 to 9 kg/kmol, the surge avoidance system will lose its efficiency. It has caused a sharp drop in efficiency and the release of surge avoidance valves up to 22% to prevent surge. After designing and optimizing the surge avoidance system, the results show that closing the valves by the new control system will save about 270 billion Rials annually for each pair of compressors. The designed Surge active control system has the ability to be set up in industrial systems due to its length of 1 meter, diameter of0.30 meters and weight of 2.5 kg. By choosing the matrix of optimal control coefficients, in addition to controlling possible surges, significant energy wastage is prevented and the performance range of compressors is increased. The above studies have an analytical and computational aspect, and it is hoped that in the future, after the construction and installation of the designed model, the benefits of this system can be used in the industry.
