  7. Abstract:
  8. The methods of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) from reservoirs have been taken into consideration recently due to the decline in oil reserves and the rise in energy demand. Studies and investigations indicate the tremendous potential of chemical approaches based on injecting ionic liquids into the porous media with the goal of improving oil recovery. Additionally, hydrogels and polymers, which are two of the process' primary materials, are thought to be good alternatives. In the current study, a hydrogel based on carboxymethyl cellulose was first created and synthesized. Ionic liquids based on imidazolium and triflate anion were then added, and their effectiveness in enhancing the properties that increase oil production was examined. The most acceptable ionic liquids were chosen in the ideal concentration of ionic liquid and salt after first being investigated in terms of surface activity, producing a stable emulsion, and evaluating the effect of salinity and temperature factors. After that, a number of experimental studies were conducted to comprehend the structure of hydrogels and explore their thermal and viscoelastic strength as well as equilibrium swelling. The findings show that the presence of ionic liquids in the hydrogel's three-dimensional network has been proven to enhance its viscoelastic capabilities. The majority of Iran's reservoirs are carbonated, which has an impact on the tested surfaces and causes a change in behavior from oil-wet to water-wet. Finally, in order to compare oil recovery, the effects of ionic liquid, hydrogel, and hydrogel based on ionic liquid have been studied using a multi-layered glass micromodel with various permeabilities. The two compounds work well together, and the maximum recovery of 77.8% of the in-situ oil is achieved. This is significantly better than the two substances being injected separately. As a result, these materials in combination are thought to be a desired and viable choice for improving oil recovery
