  7. Abstract:
  8. Density currents are occurred as a result of the intrusion of a dense fluid into a fluid with a different density. Density differences are typically caused by the difference in temperature, existence of solution or insoluble material and suspended solids. A special kind of density current is called a turbidity current which is a sediment-laden density current. This is a kind of flow which is driven by the force of gravity on suspended sediment particles that causes an excess fractional density with respect to the surrounding ambient fluid. In this work, the 2-D sediment-laden density current on a sloping surface of the channel is investigated through experiments. The channel is 12 m long, 0.2 m wide and 0.6 m deep. Densimetric Froude number is one of the familiar non-dimensional parameters appear in this current. However, it seems as though, fewer works are performed on the effect of Froude Number on the regime of these currents. This is important because of this fact that the variation of inlet densimetric Froude number can effect on turbidity current's hydrodynamic. The results show that due to increasing in height of opening entrance gate, the value of velocity in profiles increase. Also the values of entrance concentration and channel slope with turbidity current's velocity have the direct correlation particularly in high densimetric Froude number of entrance flow. In finally by increasing in entrance densimetric Froude number the value of average velocity of turbidity current slakes. Also height opening entrance gate and channel slope with the value of concentration in vertical distribution have the non-direct correlation particularly in high densimetric Froude number of entrance flow. Increasing in entrance concentration is the main reason of the increasing in value of concentration in vertical distribution. Experimental results also showed that the channel slope the same as the inlet Froude number and inlet Reynolds number had an important effect on the density current’s characteristic. Also, the critical Froude number investigated in this study which was equal to 0.6
