Homogenous carbonylation of methanol is a major way to acetic acid. In this study central composite design (CCD) at five level (-1.63, -1, 0, +1, +1.63) combined with response surface methodology (RSM) have been applied to optimize carbonylation of methanol using ruthenium promoted iridium catalyst in homogenous phase. The effect of seven process variables including; temperature, pressure, iridium, ruthenium, methyl iodide, methyl acetate and water concentrations as well as, their interactions were modeled.
