  7. Abstract:
  8. With the advent of new computer technologies, computational analysis on the human organs has become tremendously popular in the field of medical science. Every year thousands of people suffer irreversible eye damages pertaining to lack of adequate medications. In this regards, enormous amount of money is spent annually but mostly in vain due to the irreversibility and silent nature of eye diseases like glaucoma. Yet more precise studies on the topic are requisite. In this thesis, a validated half 3D finite volume model of human eye considering the fluid flow in collaboration with heat transfer in the steady state utilizing the well known discretized bio-heat transfer equation coupled with Boussinesq equations has been developed. In this investigation, different anatomical, environmental and physiological boundary and operating conditions have been thoroughly examined; specifically, concerning the 3D dynamics the flows in altering the conduction phenomena. Meanwhile, the action of laser heat source has also been investigated pertaining to laser keratoplasty and laser iridoplasty which are refractive surgeries and surgeries done on iris in order to make holes in it, respectively. In addition to the abovementioned tasks the application on goldmann tonometer has also been studied using an anisotropic model for the cornea. Under the steady state condition, it was established that the fluids get colder and denser when interacted with the colder regions and tend to form circulations when interacted with the warmer regions. Generally, the posterior region of the human eye is less affected by the ambient condition while the anterior segment is generally influenced by the ambient conditions. The flow field also totally collapses when the direction of the gravitational acceleration changes. Human eye irradiated with typical laser beam showed more severe change in temperature which was higher in pulsed laser. Typically, the continuous laser beam show more satisfactory results in not increasing the temperature to dangerous levels. The results for the tonometer also matched with those of previous works.
