  7. Abstract:
  8. Non-uniform laminated beams are being used in many engineering applications as primary elements. Helicopter blades, wind turbine blades and robot arms are examples of applications of these structures, in which the high stiffness-to-weight ratio and the non-uniform geometry are of high importance. Changing the thickness in laminated structures is a big challenge in fabrication view as different tapering configurations may significantly alter the stiffness of the structure. Thus, increasing the stiffness and dynamics characteristics of tapered beams with simple configuration is of high importance. The present work aims to investigate the effect of adding nano particles in resin during the fabrication to improve the stiffness and natural frequency of the structure. A design optimization algorithm has been utilized to determine the optimal geometry of the tapered beam. The geometry of tapered structures, including the tapered sections, the configuration of tapered beams has a high influence in dynamics behavior of tapered structures. Experimental tests have been performed to illustrate the accuracy and functionality of the iv proposed system. It is observed that increasing the nano-particles from 0% to 3% increases the natural frequency. Beyond this limit and up to 5% the natural frequency slightly decreases and after 7% the natural frequency shows a very sharp reduction, where at 10% the natural frequency is about half of the initial value. However, at 10% of nano-particles, the damping coefficient improves significantly
