- Abstract:
- Pulse forming networks (PFN) simulating an open ended transmission line, are very favorable in high energy long pulses generation, because of some benefits such as limited energy storage. However, PFN drawbacks, which are low output pulse quality and constant pulse width, limit their applications. Another limitation of generating rectangle pulses using PFN is that, half of the charged voltage appears in the output when delivering the entire energy to a matched load. In this project a new structure of PFN is presented that overcomes these limitations. For continuous pulse width adjusting, three simple schemes are proposed. By increasing load magnitude, amplitude of output pulse voltage would be approximately as that of the charged voltage, so semiconductor switches can easily be added to the PFN pulse generator, also pulse quality is enhanced and faster rising time in comparison with conventional PFNs is obtained. Energy stored quantity is bounded in this topology and limited to three times the energy needed for the output pulse in the case 〖R_L=10Z〗_0 . To verify the proposed structure, a prototype is simulated in PSPICE software and experimental results are also reported
