  8. Nanoparticles can be applied as chemical agent in enhnaced oil recovery like surfactants and polymers. One of nanoparticles usefull capabilities is modification of their surface. This research investigates this capabilty of nanoparticles in enhanced oil recovery. Surface modification of nanoparticles with both agents can bring new abilities to these materials. Here surface of silica nanoparticles is modified by hydrophilic agent comprising PEG groups, hydrophobic agent comprising propyl group and both agents. FT-IR tests showed that grafting of modifiyng agents on surface of nanoparticles is well done. To investigate effect of nanoparticles surface modification on nanoparticles capability in enhanced oil recovery, their solution surface activity is studied by measuring surface tension and interfacial tension of their solution or nanofluid. Results showed that modification of silica nanoparticles surface can enhance their solution surface activity up to 100% relative to unmodified nanoparticles solution. Also, effect of surface modification on nanoparticles capability in wettability alteration is studied by measuring contact angle of oil drop on oil-wetted surfaces after aging to various nanofluids. It was seen that surface modification of nanoparticles can improve their solution wettability alteration capability in the way that after 3 days aging wettability of oil wetted surfaces was altered to water-wet. At last, injecting various nanofluids to micro model as porous media showed that surface modification of nanoparticles can enhance thier flooding oil recovery up to 10%
