Lithium ion battery is one of the innovative and emerging technologies in energy sector that has played a major role in electricity supply security by integration of renewable energy technologies in electrical grid, implementation of electrical transportation system and de-carbonation of the both sectors in recent years. On the other hand, the formation of the potential market of technology as one of the functions of the technological innovation system plays an essential role in creation and advancement of innovation in the energy sector. Therefore, in this thesis, the development of lithium ion battery technology in Iran has been investigated from the perspective of the technology market in which the diffusion of the technology is forecasted using market penetration models (Bass Model and Generalized Bass Model). The results show that the final volume of the market, the factor of imitation (word of mouth advertising effect), and the innovation factor (advertising effect) specific to the model itself, as well as economical and technical external variables such as the price and energy density of the battery, enhance and improve the process of the deffusion. Finally it is concluded that the most important and main factor for the saturation of the lithium ion battery technology market is to improve the energy density of the battery as its technical characteristic
