  7. Abstract:
  8. Contaminants in drinking water, including microbial contaminants, have a great impact on the health of people in the community and can seriously threaten public health. In recent years, diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria due to the consumption of contaminated water have led to many deaths. As a result, water treatment has been one of the most important human concerns. Among the new water treatment technologies, metal-organic(MOF) frameworks are a new generation of porous materials that have properties such as high surface area, water stability and functionality due to their dual structure. As a result, they are widely used today in various scientific fields, including water purification. This study focuses on two applications of these compounds and the aim is to fabricate a nanostructure that has antibacterial effect and the function of adsorption of contaminants from water. The ZIF-8 metal-organic framework has been studied due to its antimicrobial properties. In order to improve the adsorption property and increase the stability of ZIF-8 in aqueous media, the UiO-66-NH2 metal-organic framework has been used. The ZIF-8 crystal structure is formed on UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles and a core-shell structure is obtained. The synthesized nanoparticles were detected by FTIR, FESEM and XRD analyzes. In this study, First, the inhibitory activity of bacterial growth by nanoparticles in solid and liquid culture media was investigated. E.coli gram-negative and S. aureus gram-positive bacteria are the species studied in antibacterial experiments and the presented results confirm the antibacterial properties of the synthesized nanocomposites, so that the growth of bacteria in liquid culture medium is inhibited by more than 97% and the best antibacterial activity as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was 30 mg/L of ZIF-8@UiO-66-NH2 against both bacteria. Then, the adsorption of methylene blue, a cationic dye, from aqueous solutions was investigated, which shows that the adsorption rate of the synthesized composite has increased from 40% to 60% compared to ZIF-8. The maximum adsorption capacity of MB by synthesized nanocomposite was 62.671 mg/g, which increased by increasing temperature and it reached 215.78 mg/g at 45℃. According to the results, the adsorption isotherm with a correlation coefficient (R2) of 0.994 follows the Langmuir model. Also, according to the obtained results, ZIF-8@UiO-66-NH2 had the highest adsorption at pH 8.9
