    Abstract
In this work Halloysite nanotubes were used to synthesis a series of modified acrylamide/Quince seeds-based hydrogels (Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln). The as-prepared Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln hydrogels displayed improved performance as adsorbent in elimination of methylene blue (MB) from aqueous solution. The structures of the prepared Poly (AAm-co-QS)/Haln hydrogels were identified by XRD, FT-IR, FE-SEM, BET, TGA and EDX. Effect of pH value on the swelling behavior and dye adsorption performance of as-prepared hydrogels was explored. The adsorption MB results suggested that the adsorption kinetics fitted the pseudo-second-order model. The adsorption experiments at various pH condition indicated that...

Acrylamidevinyl acetate copolymer as a new UCST copolymer: Phase transition and aggregation behavior; an experimental and theoretical study

    , Article Reactive and Functional Polymers ; Volume 181 , 2022 ; 13815148 (ISSN) Karimi, A ; Kordzadeh, A ; Saadatabadi, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2022
    Abstract
A high sensitive upper critical solution temperature (UCST) copolymer was synthesized through free radical copolymerization with acrylamide (AAm) and vinyl acetate (VA). The UCST behavior is due to a combination of hydrogen bonds and electrostatic potentials between copolymer chains. Turbidimetry, dynamic light scattering, and rheology studies were used to determine the phase transition and aggregation behavior. It is indicated that copolymer with 80% AAm has a phase transition temperature between 38 and 38.2 °C, which is suitable for releasing fever medicine. Also, the temperature gradient for the complete dissolution of the copolymer is 2 °C. The molecular dynamics simulations at a...

    Abstract
Local three-stranded DNA/RNA hybrid regions of genomes (R-loops) have been detected either by binding of a monoclonal antibody (DRIP assay) or by enzymatic recognition by RNaseH. Such a structure has been postulated for mouse and human telomeres, clearly suggested by the identification of the complementary RNA Telomeric repeat-containing RNA “TERRA”. However, the tremendous disparity in the information obtained with antibody-based technology drove us to investigate a new strategy. Based on the observation that DNA/RNA hybrids in a triplex complex genome co-purify with the double-stranded chromosomal DNA fraction, we developed a direct preparative approach from total protein-free cellular...

A thermodynamically-consistent large deformation theory coupling photochemical reaction and electrochemistry for light-responsive gels

    , Article Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids ; Volume 116 , July , 2018 , Pages 239-266 ; 00225096 (ISSN) Dehghany, M ; Zhang, H ; Naghdabadi, R ; Hu, Y ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2018
    Abstract
Gels are composed of crosslinked polymer network and solvent molecules. When the main chain network is incorporated with functional groups that can undergo photo-chemical reaction upon light irradiation, the gel becomes light-responsive. Under irradiation, the photosensitive groups may undergo photo-ionization process and generate charges that are attached to the main chain or diffuse into the solvent. The newly generated ions disturb the osmotic balance of the gel medium. As a result, water molecules and mobile ions are driven into or out of the network to compensate the osmotic imbalance, which eventually leads to macroscopic swelling or shrinking of the gel. In this work, we develop a...

    Abstract
In this research a novel controlled anticancer drug delivery system with dual pH and thermal responses was designed based on magnetic mesoporous silica nanoparticles that were anchored by β-cyclodextrin and coated by poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM). Results demonstrated that the behavior of doxorubicin (anticancer drug) release depended on pH and temperature conditions. At endosomal pH (pH 5.5) the amount of drug release enhanced because the cap was removed from the pores. Furthermore, PNIPAM shell collapsed above the lower critical solution temperature and the releasing of drug increased. Thus, this nanocarrier would have the potential to be applied in the tumor therapy. © 2017 Taylor...
