    Abstract
Owning to interesting properties of biosurfactants such as biodegradability and lower toxicity, they have broad application in the food industry, healthy products, and bioremediation as well as for oil recovery. The present study was aimed to develop a GA-ANFIS model for predicting the breakthrough curves for rhamnolipid adsorption over activated carbon. To that end, a set of 296 adsorption data points were utilized to train the proposed FIS structure. Different graphical and statistical methods were also used to evaluate the model's accuracy and reliability. Results were then compared to those of the previously reported Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Group Method Data Handling (GMDH)...

Tuning the wetting properties of SiO2-based nanofluids to create durable surfaces with special wettability for self-cleaning, anti-fouling, and oil-water separation

    Abstract
Surfaces with special wettability have aroused lots of attention due to their broad applications in many fields. In this work, we systematically report selective and various fabrications of nanofluids based on readily available materials such as SiO2 nanoparticles and polydimethylsiloxane to create superhydrophobic, superoleophobic, superhydrophilic/superoleophobic, and underwater superoleophobic coatings. The efficiency of prepared coatings is investigated on mineral rock plates as porous substrates via the straightforward and cost-effective solution-immersion technique. The static water contact angle of 170°, effortless bouncing of water droplets, and self-cleaning property with a near...

Recent progress in inorganic and composite coatings with bactericidal capability for orthopaedic applications

    , Article Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology, and Medicine ; Volume 7, Issue 1 , Feb , 2011 , Pages 22-39 ; 15499634 (ISSN) Simchi, A ; Tamjid, E ; Pishbin, F ; Boccaccini, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
This review covers the most recent developments of inorganic and organic-inorganic composite coatings for orthopedic implants, providing the interface with living tissue and with potential for drug delivery to combat infections. Conventional systemic delivery of drugs is an inefficient procedure that may cause toxicity and may require a patient's hospitalization for monitoring. Local delivery of antibiotics and other bioactive molecules maximizes their effect where they are required, reduces potential systemic toxicity and increases timeliness and cost efficiency. In addition, local delivery has broad applications in combating infection-related diseases. Polymeric coatings may present some...

An analytical model of a gas turbine components performance and its experimental validation

    Abstract
Gas turbine has broad applications in variety of industries. The developing gas turbine efficiency is of great engineering concern. This appeals to more precise modeling as somewhat inevitable. Modeling plays a decisive and essential role not only in all design phases, but also in development and manufacturing process to investigate performance of an engine. In this research, components of a gas turbine including air intake, axial and centrifugal compressors, combustion chamber and axial turbine are investigated. A novel dimensionless modeling approach is introduced and then, the engine performance parameters are predicted. Setting up a systematic series of experiments on the existing engine...
