    Elsevier Ltd  2022
    Abstract
Today, passenger and racing boats increasingly utilize surface-piercing propellers. This type of propeller operates in two distinct phases of water and air simultaneously. As a result, this propeller type has additional characteristics that must be investigated separately from conventional propellers. A new family of surface piercing propellers was investigated using experimental and numerical methods. The family consisted of five propeller models with varying geometric features operating at an immersion ratio of 0.7. Experiments were conducted in the Sharif University of Technology's hydrodynamic group's cavitation tunnel. Additionally, using Star-CCM + software, the numerical simulation...

    Abstract
The attitude fault-tolerant control of a flexible satellite actuated by reaction wheels and magnetic torquer bars is investigated in this article. A low earth orbit is considered for moment perturbations such as drag and gravity gradient. Furthermore, the flexible panels attached to a rigid central body are modeled through the assumed mode approach by a finite set of bending modal motion. The ordinary differential equations of their generalized coordinates are found using Lagrange’s equation, and the resulting dynamical model is validated by comparing its simulation results to the NX Siemens software results. Finally, a fault-tolerant controller based on sliding mode control is suggested and...

    Abstract
The design and development of efficient approaches for water–oil separation have had widespread interest. Most previously introduced techniques and materials used for development of the successful separation of oily wastewater could not answer all the desired demands, such as being efficient and environmentally and economically friendly. Therefore, in seeking a novel method capable of answering these expectations, surfaces with special wettability were introduced. A novel, reusable, and recyclable superhydrophilic and superoleophobic poly(Vsim-Vim)@PFOA@SiO2 nanocomposite-coated stainless steel mesh was synthesized through a facile preparation process. Since the most important factors of...

A new designed linear Fresnel lens solar concentrator based on spectral splitting for passive cooling of solar cells

    , Article Energy Conversion and Management ; Volume 230 , 2021 ; 01968904 (ISSN) Kiyaee, S ; Saboohi, Y ; Moshfegh, A. Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2021
    Abstract
The use of solar concentrators can be an alternative for initial cost reduction in the PV systems. However, they suffer from high cell temperature that can be overcome by different active or passive cooling approaches. Spectral splitting and the elimination of high-energy solar photons are effective solutions for cell temperature reduction. In this study, we developed a Polymethyl methacrylate Spectral Splitting Fresnel Lens (SSFL) for linear concentration using a new design, which directs the desired portion of the spectrum towards the cell and diffracts the rest to eliminate the use of beam splitters or nanofluids in the spectral splitting system. Different SSFLs were considered for...

Sensitivity analysis of the efficiency of Compton camera to the detector parameters using the GEANT4 computer code

    Abstract
Compton imaging is an imaging technique in which Compton scattering is used to produce images from a gamma-ray source. Compton imaging systems are also known as Compton camera. The basic design of Compton imaging systems consists of two-position detectors that are sensitive to the position and energy scattered from gamma rays. Compton camera efficiency is defined as the fraction of photons entering the scatterer (disperse) detector that undergoes only one Compton scattering and is then photoelectrically absorbed in the absorber detector. In the present study, the efficiency of a Compton camera was investigated based on semiconductor detectors using the GEANT4 simulation toolkit. In this...

    Abstract
The main purpose of this paper is to present a novel procedure for accelerating a multi-objective optimization method of designing a 5G antenna. The optimization method was chosen after comparing four learning optimization algorithms. The Kriging algorithm was found to be superior to the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Rational algorithms. Our methodology is creatively correlated to exploit some cost functions of height, the Dielectric constant of the substrate, and meta-material design variables, with a view to reducing the return loss and increasing the gain in learning from the Kriging model builder techniques. This was fully achieved in the present...

    Abstract
A vapor-compression cooling system utilizing PCM is studied whereby the electricity consumption peak load is shifted. More specifically, the dynamic performance of the cooling system with and without PCM is evaluated and is presented with details on the hottest day of the year in Tehran, Iran. The proposed system uses the cooling energy to freeze or “discharge” the PCM during nighttime when the cooling load is minimally needed and uses the stored cooling energy during the peak load hours by melting or “charging” the PCM. This leads to better performance during the peak load hours when higher cooling loads are required. Oleic acid was chosen as PCM. The simulation was performed in EES...

Scrum metaprocess: a process line approach for customizing Scrum

    Abstract
Scrum is currently the most widely used agile methodology. However, it is regarded as a framework rather than a concrete process. Unfortunately, the resources available on Scrum do not explicitly define its variable parts and do not offer proper guidance on how to resolve those variabilities. Process (re)configuration is thus left to Scrum Retrospective sessions; this can delay the vital decisions that can significantly improve the process before problems arise. This paper aims to address the problems associated with configuring/reconfiguring Scrum by identifying all the variabilities (variation points) in the Scrum framework, along with the situations where a variation point can be resolved...

    Abstract
In this study, a periodic beam-like structure consisting of the horizontal and inclined beam elements is proposed. Three models with three different angles of inclination are considered. The generalized differential quadrature (GDQ) and generalized differential quadrature rule (GDQR) methods are used to solve the differential equations of longitudinal and transverse vibrations, respectively. The effects of two geometrical parameters on the first three band gaps of each model are investigated, comprehensively. Results show that this periodic structure has wide band gaps at low frequency ranges. Furthermore, the band gaps can get close to each other by changing the geometrical parameters....

    Abstract
Wet cooling towers are one of the most water-intensive technologies, which are widely used in air conditioning applications, especially in dry regions. Considering the current water crisis around the world, it is essential to improve the design of these cooling towers to reduce their water consumption, while maintaining their cooling performance. Makeup water of cooling tower is usually a constant-temperature water which is cold enough to condensate the moisture content of the cooling tower exhaust air. Therefore, it has great potential to recycle water evaporation of cooling towers, which is not considered so far. This paper investigates a novel design for cooling towers utilising the...

    Abstract
The present study is concerned with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of turbulent dispersion of immiscible liquids, namely, water–silicone oil and water–benzene through Kenics static mixers using the Eulerian–Eulerian and Eulerian–Lagrangian approaches of the ANSYS Fluent 16.0 software. To study the droplet size distribution (DSD), the Eulerian formulation incorporating a population balance model (PBM) was employed. For the Eulerian–Lagrangian approach, a discrete phase model (DPM) in conjunction with the Eulerian approach for continuous phase simulation was used to predict the residence time distribution (RTD) of droplets. In both approaches, a shear stress transport (SST)...
