    Abstract
The potential of electrospun cellulose acetate/chitosan/single walled carbon nanotubes/ferrite/titanium dioxide (CA/chitosan/SWCNT/Fe3O4/TiO2) nanofibers was investigated for the removal of Cr(VI), As(V), Methylene blue and Congo red from aqueous solutions via the adsorption and photocatalytic reduction processes. The properties of synthesized SWCNT/Fe3O4/TiO2 and fibers were characterized using TEM, SEM, FTIR, XRD, TGA and BET analysis. In adsorption process, the influence of adsorbent type including SWCNT to Fe3O4 ratio, TiO2 to SWCNT/Fe3O4 ratio and SWCNT/Fe3O4/TiO2 concentration as well as the adsorption parameters including pH, contact time, and initial concentration of adsorbates on...

    Abstract
La-MOF-NH2@Fe3O4 (magnetic-MOF) was used as an efficient, ultrafast, and selective adsorbent for the separation of Congo Red (CR) with 92.02% removal after 2 min. The magnetic-MOF was identified by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area, Zeta Potential analysis, analysis of the magnetic hysteresis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Kinetics, isotherms, the effect of pH, thermodynamic, and selectivity of CR adsorption were investigated. The results confirmed that the adsorption kinetics complied with the pseudo-second-order model. The...

Review on alzheimer's disease: inhibition of amyloid beta and tau tangle formation

    , Article International Journal of Biological Macromolecules ; Volume 167 , 2021 , Pages 382-394 ; 01418130 (ISSN) Ashrafian, H ; Hadi Zadeh, E ; Hasan Khan, R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
It is reported that approximately 40 million people are suffering from dementia, globally. Dementia is a group of symptoms that affect neurons and cause some mental disorders, such as losing memory. Alzheimer's disease (AD) which is known as the most common cause of dementia, is one of the top medical care concerns across the world. Although the exact sources of the disease are not understood, is it believed that aggregation of amyloid-beta (Aβ) outside of neuron cells and tau aggregation or neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) formation inside the cell may play crucial roles. In this paper, we are going to review studies that targeted inhibition of amyloid plaque and tau protein tangle formation,...

    Abstract
Herein, MIL-101(Fe), CoFe2O4, novel binary (MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4, MIL-101(Fe)/GO and CoFe2O4/GO), and ternary (MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO and MIL-101(Fe)/CoFe2O4/(7%)GO) magnetic composites based upon the MIL-101(Fe) were synthesized. The XRD, FESEM, TEM, EDX, BET-BJH, FTIR, VSM, DRS, PL, EIS and other electrochemical analyses were applied to characterize samples. The MIL/CoFe2O4/(3%)GO demonstrated the best performance compared to other samples for visible light photocatalytic and photo-Fenton-like degradation of Direct Red 23 (DtR-23), Reactive Red 198 (ReR-198) dyes as well as Tetracycline Hydrochloride (TC-H) antibiotic. Degradation of dyes using the ternary composite after 70 min of...

    Abstract
In this research, Ag-Al2O3 nanostructures have been prepared via combustion synthesis and ammonium acetate and urea have been applied as fuels. The prepared Ag-Al2O3 nanostructures were characterized by DTA, XRD, SEM, TEM, and BET spectroscopy. The effect of different ratios of silver to alumina and fuel percentage on morphology and particle size of prepared products were investigated. The results showed that using ammonium acetate fuel led to the production of Ag-γ-Al2O3 nanocompounds, while using urea produced Ag-α-Al2O3. Also, the photocatalytic activity of Ag-Al2O3 nanostructures for Congo red degradation was evaluated by UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The photocatalytic...

Modification of carbon paste with congo red supported on multi-walled carbon nanotube for voltammetric determination of uric acid in the presence of ascorbic acid

    , Article Journal of Solid State Electrochemistry ; Volume 13, Issue 10 , 2009 , Pages 1567-1575 ; 14328488 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Zare Mehrjardi, H. R ; Khajehsharifi, H ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
A chemically modified carbon-paste electrode (CPE) is prepared by incorporating congo red (CR) immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). The results show that CR is effectively immobilized on the surface of MWCNT under the ultrasonic agitation in aqueous solution and further incorporating the nafion. The prepared electrode, due to the electrostatic repulsions between the CR and ascorbate anion, is capable to mask the response of the ascorbic acid (AA) completely and provide an effective method for the detection of minor amounts of uric acid (UA) in the presence of high concentrations of AA. On the other hand, an increase in the microscopic area of the electrode by addition of...

To reach the best results, main parameters such as pH, adsorbent mass, contact time, initial dye concentration and temperature were optimized through the adsorption experiments in a batch system. The kinetic and isotherm of CR removal...

Electrochemical synthesis of polypyrrole in the presence of congo red; application to selective voltammetric determination of dopamine in the presence of ascorbic acid

    , Article Electroanalysis ; Volume 21, Issue 2 , 2009 , Pages 157-164 ; 10400397 (ISSN) Shahrokhian, S ; Zare Mehrjardi, H. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
The electrosynthesis of polypyrrole (PPy) film has been achieved on glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in aqueous medium of Congo red (CR) by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV). The modified electrode exhibits high electrocatalytic activity toward dopamine (DA) oxidation, with drastic enhancement of the reversibility and peak currents. This modified electrode, due to electrostatic interactions, is capable to mask the response of ascorbic acid (AA) completely and provide an effective method for the detection of minor amounts of dopamine in the presence of high concentrations of AA. The electrochemical response of the film modified electrode is strongly dependent to the switching potential applied in...

    Abstract
Disposal of contaminated wastewater causes many serious problems especially when it gets mixed with the ground and seawater. It is, therefore, important to apply any remedial action to eradicate dangerous pollutants from the aqueous effluents and to avoid exposure of this wastewater to aquatic life. The research results discussed herein deal with the removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) and Congo Red (CR) dye from wastewater by using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as an adsorbent. Different factors like solid dosage, initial pH and concentration, time, and temperature were studied to understand the behavior and mechanism of adsorption. The maximum adsorption capacity in case of a single...
