Optimization of the Capability of Native Microorganisms Isolated from the Landfill of Electronic Wastes in Bioleaching of E-Waste

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Arab, Bahareh (Author) ; Yaghmaei, Soheila (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Given the complex structure of electronic waste and the difficulty of recycling it by traditional methods, the focus is mainly on biohydrometallurgy method, and in particular on bioleaching. To recover metals, various microorganisms are utilized in this method. In light of previous studies, cyanogenic bacteria have been widely used for the extraction of basic and precious metals. Among the species, indigenous microorganisms have a higher ability to resist toxic environments in the bioleaching of metals due to their adaptation by rapid changes in their metabolic system over time. The main objective of this study is to isolate indigenous microorganisms from electronic waste landfill for their...

Ternary composite of TiO2 nanotubes/Ti plates modified by g-C3N4 and SnO2 with enhanced photocatalytic activity for enhancing antibacterial and photocatalytic activity

    , Article Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology ; Volume 178 , 2018 , Pages 124-132 ; 10111344 (ISSN) Faraji, M ; Mohaghegh, N ; Abedini, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier B.V  2018
    Abstract
A series of g-C3N4-SnO2/TiO2 nanotubes/Ti plates were fabricated via simple dipping of TiO2 nanotubes/Ti in a solution containing SnCl2 and g-C3N4 nanosheets and finally annealing of the plates. Synthesized plates were characterized by various techniques. The SEM analysis revealed that the g-C3N4-SnO2 nanosheets with high physical stability have been successfully deposited onto the surface of TiO2 nanotubes/Ti plate. Photocatalytic activity was investigated using two probe chemical reactions: oxidative decomposition of acetic acid and oxidation of 2-propanol under irradiation. Antibacterial activities for Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria were also investigated in dark and under UV/Vis...

Simultaneous controlled release of 5-FU, DOX and PTX from chitosan/PLA/5-FU/g-C3N4-DOX/g-C3N4-PTX triaxial nanofibers for breast cancer treatment in vitro

    Abstract
In the present study, the tri-layer nanofibers were synthesized via triaxial electrospinning process to control the sustained delivery of Doxorubicin (DOX), Paclitaxel (PTX) and 5- fluorouracil (5-FU) anticancer drugs from nanofibers. The 5-FU molecules were incorporated into the core solution (chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol (CS/PVA)) to fabricate the CS/PVA/5-FU inner layer of nanofibers. The intermediate layer was prepared from poly(lactic acid)/chitosan (PLA/CS) nanofibers. The DOX and PTX molecules were initially loaded into the g-C3N4 nanosheets and following were incorporated into the PLA/CS solution to fabricate the outer layer of nanofibers. The synthesized nanosheets and nanofibers were...

Injectable hydrogels based on oxidized alginate-gelatin reinforced by carbon nitride quantum dots for tissue engineering

    , Article International Journal of Pharmaceutics ; Volume 602 , 2021 ; 03785173 (ISSN) Ghanbari, M ; Salavati Niasari, M ; Mohandes, F ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Stem cell treatment is promising in the various disorders treatment, but its effect is confined by the adverse conditions in the damaged tissues. The utilization of hydrogels has been suggested as a procedure to defeat this issue by developing the engraftment and survival of injected stem cells. Specifically, injectable hydrogels have drawn much attention due to their shape adaptability, ease of use, and the capability to reach body parts that are hard to access. In this study, the thermosensitive injectable hydrogels based on oxidized alginate, gelatin, and carbon nitride quantum dots (CNQDs) have been fabricated for tissue engineering. The mechanical characteristics of the nanocomposite...

Optimized bioleaching of copper by indigenous cyanogenic bacteria isolated from the landfill of e-waste

    Abstract
In this study, indigenous cyanogenic bacterial strains were isolated on nutrient, minimal salt, and soil extract media at various culture conditions from two distinct landfills of e-waste, Iran. Based on their cyanide formation profiles, five most potent isolates were selected for optimization and to this end, the influence of the most effective factors on cyanide production including pH, glycine concentration and temperature were assessed using one-factor at a time method (OFAT). Initial pH of 7, glycine concentration of 2 g/L and temperature of 30°C were obtained as optimal conditions for most of the isolates. Additionally, two bioleaching processes were applied for each bacteria to detect...
