    , Article Knowledge-Based Systems ; Vol. 59 , 2014 , pp. 58-65 ; ISSN: 09507051 Pasandideh, S. H. R ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Niknamfar, A. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Simultaneous reductions in inventory of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished items have recently become a major focus in supply chain management. Vendor-managed inventory is a well-known practice in supply chain collaborations, in which manufacturer manages inventory at the retailer and decides about the time and replenishment. In this paper, an integrated vendor-managed inventory model is presented for a two-level supply chain structured as a single capacitated manufacturer at the first level and multiple retailers at the second level. Manufacturer produces different products where demands are assumed decreasing functions of retail prices. In this chain, both the manufacturer and...

Buoyancy effects on gaseous slip flow in a vertical rectangular microchannel

    , Article Microfluidics and Nanofluidics ; Vol. 16, issue. 1-2 , 2014 , pp. 207-224 ; ISSN: 16134982 Sadeghi, M ; Sadeghi, A ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Consideration is given to the buoyancy effects on the fully developed gaseous slip flow in a vertical rectangular microduct. Two different cases of the thermal boundary conditions are considered, namely uniform temperature at two facing duct walls with different temperatures and adiabatic other walls (case A) and uniform heat flux at two walls and uniform temperature at other walls (case B). The rarefaction effects are treated using the firstorder slip boundary conditions. By means of finite Fourier transform method, analytical solutions are obtained for the velocity and temperature distributions as well as the Poiseuille number. Furthermore, the threshold value of the mixed convection...

Pressure effects on electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in rectangular microchannels

    , Article Theoretical and Computational Fluid Dynamics ; Vol. 28, issue. 4 , 2014 , pp. 409-426 ; ISSN: 09354964 Vakili, M. A ; Sadeghi, A ; Saidi, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, the fully developed electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in rectangular microchannels in the presence of pressure gradient is analyzed. The electrical potential and momentum equations are numerically solved through a finite difference procedure for a non-uniform grid. A complete parametric study reveals that the pressure effects are more pronounced at higher values of the channel aspect ratio and smaller values of the flow behavior index. The Poiseuille number is found to be an increasing function of the channel aspect ratio for pressure assisted flow and a decreasing function of this parameter for pressure opposed flow. It is also observed that the Poiseuille number is...

    Abstract
This is a theoretical study dealing with longitudinal gaseous slip flow forced convection between a periodic bunch of microcylinders arranged in regular array. The selected geometry has applications in microscale pin fin heat sinks used for cooling of microchips. The flow is considered to be hydrodynamically and thermally fully developed. The two axially constant heat flux boundary conditions of H1 and H2 are considered in the analysis. The velocity and temperature discontinuities at the boundary are incorporated into the solutions using the first order slip boundary conditions. The method considered is mainly analytical in which the governing equations and three of the boundary conditions...

Electroosmotic flow of viscoelastic fluids through a slit microchannel with a step change in wall temperature

    , Article Journal of Heat Transfer ; Volume 135, Issue 2 , 2013 ; 00221481 (ISSN) Sadeghi, A ; Veisi, H ; Saidi, M. H ; Asghar Mozafari, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Thermally developing electroosmotically generated flow of two viscoelastic fluids, namely the PTT and FENE-P models, through a slit microchannel is considered. Both the viscous dissipation and Joule heating effects are taken into account and a step change in wall temperature is considered to represent physically conceivable thermal entrance conditions. Expressions for the dimensionless temperature and Nusselt number in the form of infinite series are presented. In general, the resultant eigenvalue problem is solved numerically; nevertheless, an analytical solution is presented for the regions close to the entrance. A parametric study reveals that increasing amounts of the Peclet number...

    Abstract
Electroosmosis is the predominant mechanism for flow generation in lab-on-chip devices. Since most biofluids encountered in these devices are considered to be non-Newtonian, it is vital to study the flow characteristics of common non-Newtonian models under electroosmotic body force. In this paper, the hydrodynamically fully developed electroosmotic flow of power-law fluids in rectangular microchannels is analyzed. The electrical potential and momentum equations are numerically solved through a finite difference procedure for a non-uniform grid. A thoroughgoing parametric study reveals that the Poiseuille number is an increasing function of the channel aspect ratio, the zeta potential, the...

Multi-product multi-chance-constraint stochastic inventory control problem with dynamic demand and partial back-ordering: A harmony search algorithm

    , Article Journal of Manufacturing Systems ; Volume 31, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 204-213 ; 02786125 (ISSN) Taleizadeh, A. A ; Niaki, S. T. A ; Seyedjavadi, S. M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
In this paper, a multiproduct inventory control problem is considered in which the periods between two replenishments of the products are assumed independent random variables, and increasing and decreasing functions are assumed to model the dynamic demands of each product. Furthermore, the quantities of the orders are assumed integer-type, space and budget are constraints, the service-level is a chance-constraint, and that the partial back-ordering policy is taken into account for the shortages. The costs of the problem are holding, purchasing, and shortage. We show the model of this problem is an integer nonlinear programming type and to solve it, a harmony search approach is used. At the...

Response of the beams on random Pasternak foundations subjected to harmonic moving loads

    , Article Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology ; Volume 23, Issue 11 , 2010 , Pages 3013-3023 ; 1738494X (ISSN) Younesian, D ; Kargarnovin, M. H ; Sharif University of Technology
    2010
    Abstract
Dynamic response of infinite beams supported by random viscoelastic Pasternak foundation subjected to harmonic moving loads is studied. Vertical stiffness in the support is assumed to follow a stochastic homogeneous field consisting of a small random variation around a deterministic mean value. By employing the first order perturbation theory and calculating appropriate Green's functions, the variance of the deflection and bending moment are obtained analytically in integral forms. To simulate the induced uncertainty, two practical cases of cosine and exponential covariance are utilized. A frequency analysis is performed and influences of the correlation length of the stiffness variation on...

    Abstract
The limitations of the microfabrication technology do not allow producing perfectly smooth microchannels. Hence, exploring the influences of roughness on transport phenomena in microtubes is of great importance to the scientific community. In the present work, consideration is given toward the corrugated roughness effects on fully developed electroosmotic flow and heat transfer in circular microtubes. Analytical solutions based on perturbation technique are presented for the problem assuming a low zeta potential under the constant heat flux boundary condition of the first kind. It is revealed that higher values of the corrugation number and relative roughness give rise to smaller Nusselt...

Dynamic localization of light in squeezed-like photonic lattices

    , Article Optics Communications ; Volume 367 , 2016 ; 00304018 (ISSN) Khazaei Nezhad, M ; Golshani, M ; Mahdavi, S. M ; Bahrampour, A. R ; Langari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
We investigate the dynamic localization of light in the sinusoidal bent squeezed-like photonic lattices, a class of inhomogeneous semi-infinite waveguide arrays. Our findings show that, dynamic localization takes place for the normalized amplitude of sinusoidal profile (α) above a critical value α c. In this regime, for any normalized amplitude α>αc, there is a specific spatial period (ℓ) of waveguides, in which the dynamical oscillation, with the same spatial period occurs. Moreover, the specific spatial period is a decreasing function of the normalized amplitude α. Accordingly, the dynamical oscillation and self-imaging is realized, in spite of the existence of inhomogeneous coupling...

    Abstract
A production-routing problem with price-dependent demand (PRP-PD) is studied in this paper. Demand follows a general convex, differentiable, continuous and strictly decreasing function in price. The problem is modeled as a mixed integer nonlinear program (MINLP). Two Outer Approximation (OA) based algorithms are developed to solve the PRP-PD. The efficiency of the proposed algorithms in comparison with commercial MINLP solvers is demonstrated. The computational results show that our basic OA algorithm outperforms the commercial solvers both in solution quality and in computational time aspects. On the other hand, our extended (two-phase) OA algorithm provides near-optimal solutions very...
