    , Article Polish Maritime Research ; Volume 20, Issue 2 , 2013 , Pages 21-29 ; 12332585 (ISSN) Karimi, M. H ; Seif, M. S ; Abbaspoor, M ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Trim control mechanisms such as interceptors and trim flaps have been widely used in recent years in highspeed crafts for ride and trim control. In spite of their extensive application, a few studies investigating the impact of interceptors on planing craft performance, have been published. In the present study, the impact of interceptors on planing crafts hydrodynamic quality is investigated through application of an experimental method. Two scaled-down models of high-speed planing mono-hull and catamaran are tested with and without interceptors in calm water at different heights of the interceptors to investigate the effect of interceptors on drag reduction of the models. The first one is...

Seismic behavior evaluation of semi-rigid steel frames with knee bracing by modal pushover analysis (MPA)

    , Article World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology ; Volume 76 , 2011 , Pages 217-222 ; 2010376X (ISSN) Namvari, F ; Zarfam, P ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Nowadays use of a new structural bracing system called 'Knee Bracing System' have taken the specialists attention too much. On the other hand nonlinear static analysis procedures in estimate structures performance in earthquake time have taken attention too much. One of these procedure is modal pushover analysis (MPA) procedure. The accuracy of MPA procedure for simple steel moment resisting frame has been verified and considered in Chintanapakdee and Chopra's article in 2003. Since the accuracy of MPA procedure has not verified for semi-rigid steel frames with knee bracing, we are going to get through with this matter in this study. For this purpose, the selected structures are four frames...

Optimization of the size of scintillation detectors in order to use in an array of 20 detectors which is going to be placed in the Sharif University of Technology

    , Article Proceedings of the 32nd International Cosmic Ray Conference, ICRC 2011, 11 August 2011 through 18 August 2011, Beijing ; Volume 3 , 2011 , Pages 40-43 Pezeshkian, Y ; Mortazavi Moghaddam, S ; Hedayati, H ; Bahmanabadi, M ; Khalaj, P ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
As a primary step of establishment of an extensive air shower array consisting 20 scintillation detectors we optimized an individual detector. Square shaped scintillators are placed under a metal pyramid Light Enclosure with a photomultiplier tube (PMT) at the vertex of it. A set of experiments are performed to optimize the height of light enclosures by comparing 4 different heights 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4 m. These experiments are supported by a Monte Carlo simulation of detection process. In this article, by considering experimental and simulation results we concluded that 20 cm is an optimum height for light enclosures

Discharge coefficient of oblique labyrinth side weir

    , Article 4th European Congress of the International Association of Hydroenvironment engineering and Research, 27 July 2016 through 29 July 2016 ; 2016 , Pages 665-670 ; 9781138029774 (ISBN) Kabiri Samani, A ; Parvaneh, A ; Nekooie, M. A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Labyrinth side weir is one type of weirs, which can be used when the length of opening is limited. One of the advantages of labyrinth side weir is to increase the effective length of weir perpendicular to the flow and, therefore, diverting more discharge with the same flow depth and weir geometry (opening and height). Discharge coefficient should be determined to investigate the weir performance and estimate the discharge passing over the weir. In this paper, hydraulic performance of labyrinth side weir with asymmetric geometry has been experimentally studied. The change to the geometry of ordinary labyrinth side weirs causes an increase in the effectiveness of the length of weir as being...

Marker-less versus marker-based driven musculoskeletal models of the spine during static load-handling activities

    , Article Journal of Biomechanics ; Volume 112 , 2020 Asadi, F ; Arjmand, N ; Sharif University of Technology
    Elsevier Ltd  2020
    Abstract
Evaluation of workers’ body posture in workstations is a prerequisite to estimate spinal loads and assess risk of injury for the subsequent design of preventive interventions. The Microsoft Kinect™ sensor is, in this regard, advantageous over the traditional skin-marker-based optical motion capture systems for being marker-less, portable, cost-effective, and easy-to-use in real workplaces. While several studies have demonstrated the validity/reliability of the Kinect for posture measurements especially during gait trials, its capability to adequately drive a detailed spine musculoskeletal model for injury risk assessments remains to be investigated. Lumbosacral (L5-S1) load predictions of a...

Morphological features of silicon rich phase in powder thixoformed spray atomized hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloy

    , Article Semi-Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites 10 - Selected, peer reviewed papers from the 10th International Conference on Semi-Solid Processing of Alloy and Composites, S2P 2008, Aachen, 16 September 2008 through 18 September 2008 ; Volume 141-143 , 2008 , Pages 493-498 ; 10120394 (ISSN); 9771012039401 (ISBN) Kiani, M ; Aashuri, H ; Nategh, S ; Foroughi, A ; Narimannezhad, A ; Khosravani, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Microstructural evolution of the spray atomized and powder thixoformed hyper-eutectic A390 aluminum alloy was investigated. The spray atomized powder revealed homogeneous and very fine silicon particles distribution, due to the rapid solidification of the alloy. The semi-solid powders were extruded into a closed die cavity through a hole for the plastic deformation of the powder particles. A drop forge of 45kg weight at different heights was used in this investigation. Remarkable rearrangement and growth of the silicon rich phase was revealed in the final stage

The effect of geometry on structural behavior of buildings with steel plate shear wall system subjected to blast loading

    Abstract
Many important public buildings have suffered significant damages due to terrorist attacks in the last few decades. This paper investigates the behavior of structures with steel plate shear wall lateral load resisting system under various blast loadings. A number of twenty steel frames with different heights and widths subjected to four different blast scenarios are modeled and analyzed in opensees software. The results showed that structures with steel plate shear wall systems subjected to blast loading have better behavior in high-rise structures than in low-rise structures in terms of drift and ductility ratio. The steel plate shear wall system exhibited shear-dominated,...
