Abstract
Clopidogrel, as an antiplatelet medicine, is currently one of the most widely used medicines to reduce the risk of stroke and prevent the formation of blood clots for heart patients all over the world. This medicine is still produced using the conventional approach of drug production, i.e. batch method. On the other hand, due to the many advantages of flow chemistry, such as increasing the rate of mass and heat transfer, increasing safety, performance, etc., the production of medicines using the flow approach has been highly regarded by large pharmaceutical companies in recent years. In this research, the production of clopidogrel was done using a continuous flow approach and different...

Abstract
An inexpensive silicon rubber-based chip was constructed by fabricating a triangle-shaped microcanal with a 135 μm width and 234 μm depth by laser ablation technique. The fabricated groove was sealed by a thin glass cover while two pieces of stainless-steel tubing were connected to each side of the canal. Then, a thin polyaniline film was synthesized on the walls of the canal by chemical oxidation using a syringe pump to deliver the relevant reagents. The microfluidic system was eventually connected to a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. To evaluate the capability of the constructed microfluidic system, it was implemented to the analysis of submilliliter volumes of environmental samples...

Abstract
In this work, the synthesis, characterization, and kinetic investigation of the free-radical polymerization of 4-acetylaminobenzene propenoic ester (ABPE) and 4-methylbenzene propenoic ester (MBPE) were studied. The kinetic behaviors of ABPE and MBPE in the polymerization initiated by azobisisobutyronitrile in dimethylformamide solutions at temperatures between 50 and 120°C were investigated, and experimental and theoretical conversion-time curves were compared. Both monomers showed a polymerization ceiling temperature (T c ). Tc was calculated with experimental values of k pk1/2 with a constant concentration of 0.7 mol/L for monomers. Tc was about 141 and 131 °C for ABPE and MBPE,...
Substrate oscillations boost recombinant protein release from Escherichia coli
, Article Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering ; Volume 37, Issue 5 , May , 2014 , Pages 881-890 ; ISSN: 16157591 ; Herwig, C ; Sharif University of Technology
Abstract
Intracellular production of recombinant proteins in prokaryotes necessitates subsequent disruption of cells for protein recovery. Since the cell disruption and subsequent purification steps largely contribute to the total production cost, scalable tools for protein release into the extracellular space is of utmost importance. Although there are several ways for enhancing protein release, changing culture conditions is rather a simple and scalable approach compared to, for example, molecular cell design. This contribution aimed at quantitatively studying process technological means to boost protein release of a periplasmatic recombinant protein (alkaline phosphatase) from E. coli....

Abstract
A modified form of the UNIQUAC-NRF activity coefficient model was used to study the phase behaviour of the aqueous two-phase systems (ATPSs) of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and dextran (DEX) with different molecular weights at various temperatures. In the proposed model, a ternary interaction parameter was added to the expression for the excess Gibbs free energy and, in turn, to the corresponding activity coefficient rendered by the UNIQUAC-NRF model. The combinatorial part of the new model takes the same form as that of the original UNIQUAC model and the residual part considers the nonrandomness and also the binary and the ternary interactions among the molecules in mixtures of PEG, DEX, and...

Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of ascorbic acid (AA) and uric acid (UA) at the surface of a carbon-paste electrode modified with incorporate thionine-nafion ion-paired was thoroughly investigated. The results show the presence of nafion inside the matrix of modified electrode, because of the effective ion-pairing and hydrophobic interactions, significantly enhances the stability of thionine as an electron mediator inside the modified electrode. A high reproducibility in voltammetric response to analyte species results because of this enhancement. The cyclic voltammetric studies using the prepared modified electrode show the best electrocatalytic property for the electro-oxidation of AA and...

Abstract
For thousands of years, plants and their products have been used as the mainstay of medicinal therapy. In recent years, besides attempts to isolate the active ingredients of medicinal plants, other new applications of plant products, such as their use to prepare drug delivery vehicles, have been discovered. Nanobiotechnology is a branch of pharmacology that can provide new approaches for drug delivery by the preparation of biocompatible carrier nanoparticles (NPs). In this article, we review recent studies with four important plant proteins that have been used as carriers for targeted delivery of drugs and genes. Zein is a water-insoluble protein from maize; Gliadin is a 70% alcohol-soluble...

Abstract
A drug delivery system based on poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels containing ibuprofen-loaded poly (lactic acid) (PLA) microspheres was developed to improve the release kinetics of this model drug. Gamma-irradiation and freeze-thawing were applied to prepare poly (vinyl alcohol) hydrogels. Properties and morphology of these composite hydrogels were investigated using FTIR, DSC, and SEM. In vitro release indicated that entrapment of the microspheres into the PVA hydrogels causes a reduction in both the release rate and the initial burst effect. PLA microspheres entrapped into the PVA hydrogels showed more suitable controlled release kinetics for drug delivery

Abstract
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were immobilised with cobalt nanoparticles and analyzed by transmission electron microscopy. This modification procedure substantially improved colloidal dispersion of the immobilised MWCNTs in water and organic solvents, yielding uniform and stable thin films for modification of the glassy carbon electrode surface. The modified electrode showed an efficient catalytic role for the electrochemical oxidation of thioridazine (TR), leading to remarkable decrease in its oxidation overpotential of approximately 100 mV and enhancement of the kinetics of the electrode reaction, which can be confirmed by increasing in the peak current and sharpness of the peak....

Abstract
The anesthesia community has recently witnessed numerous advances in monitoring of the anesthetic state. This development has spurred a renewed interest in the automation of the clinical anesthesia. The absence of a precise model in biomedical field has motivated the authors to propose a novel approach capable of handling the uncertainties present in the model and moreover, to design a new approach which is subjective and can be adopted to patient specific requirements. In this regard a study has been conducted in this paper, in order to fit the intelligence of fuzzy controllers based on reinforcement learning in this clinical application. This study suggests that the chosen approach fits...

Abstract
A chemically modified carbon-paste electrode (CPE) is prepared by incorporating congo red (CR) immobilized on multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT). The results show that CR is effectively immobilized on the surface of MWCNT under the ultrasonic agitation in aqueous solution and further incorporating the nafion. The prepared electrode, due to the electrostatic repulsions between the CR and ascorbate anion, is capable to mask the response of the ascorbic acid (AA) completely and provide an effective method for the detection of minor amounts of uric acid (UA) in the presence of high concentrations of AA. On the other hand, an increase in the microscopic area of the electrode by addition of...
