Minimization Of of Environmental Impacts Of of Educational Buildings Using Life Cycle Analysis . A a Case Study: Building Of of Energy Engineering Faculty
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Avami, Akram (Supervisor)
Abstract
Today, building sectors account for 34% of total energy consumption in Iran. Increasing demand of the comfort level along with population growth necessitates much more attention about energy requirements in the country. Such phenomenon has already raised concerns about the heavy environmental impacts. The present research studies minimization of global warming potential effect for an educational building by developing life cycle optimization model. The Department of Engineering of Sharif University of Technology is selected as the case study and optimal solutions has been achieved for this building. Results state that implementing cogeneration and renewable energies can reduce20 -25% of the...
Development of a Demand Side Management Model for an Educational Building
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ;
Abstract
Building sector is one of the largest energy conumers by being responsible for 40% of final energy consumption worldwide. In Iran, buildings consume around 32.5% of natural gas and 51.6% of generated electricity which is a significant portion of national energy system. Energy management consists of solutions which minimise energy consumption of a building while maintaining comfort conditions. The present research studies energy management solutions under a short–term model for an educational building using Energy-Plus software. The Department of Energy Engineering of Sharif University of Technology is selected as the case study and the optimal solutions has been achieved for this building....
Optimisation of Energy Flow Model for an Educational Building
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Saboohi, Yadollah (Supervisor) ; Roshandel, Ramin (Supervisor)
Abstract
Increase in energy consumed by buildings, which constitute about 40% of the global final energy consumption and their respective contribution to CO2 emmission has led the building owners and users toward using on–site energy production systems and especially clean energy sources. The present research aims to find the optimal solution to the building energy supply problem under current and other possible circumstances. Energy Engineering Department of Sharif University of Technology has been selected in representation of educational buildings in Iran for case study. ESM software which is based on the MESSAGE model has been used as the modeling tool. Results state that under the current...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Malaek, Mohammad Bagher (Supervisor)
Abstract
Throughout the history of science, mankind has always invented tools and methods to help him deal with complex problems, means that constitute the science. Systems theory and all the tools and methods introduced by it to analyze and judge simple to complex systems, although relatively recent, has left an enormous impact on current life style by being one those very important sciences that make dealing with complex systems easier. On the other hand, the importance of educational systems and their impact over the success of societies and large systems is close to obvious. In today’s world, having an effective educational system which can deliver required information to people and prepare them...

Data were gathered trough semi-structured interviews of experts with shaad founders (11 people), reviewing some of the related documents and news, and unstructured observation by researcher. The findings were coded using...

The Hidden Impact of Iran-Iraq War during Fetal Stage on Educational Attainment
, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
The Iran-Iraq war between 1980 to 1988 involved Iran's western borders and inflicted heavy casualties. This war was also spread to the central provinces of Iran in several periods as a result of Iraqi missile attacks, known as the War of Cities. The attacks were mainly intended to intimidate people, leaving relatively few deaths and injuries. In this study, we seek to estimate part of the hidden and long run impacts of these attacks. Using a two-percent sample of Iran’s 1990 census and the information of the location and timing of missile attacks, and by incorporating the difference in difference method, we estimate the causal impact of missile attacks on the years of education of those who...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
Emphasis on the expansion of education in Iran's development strategy and increasing demand for higher education in the 2000s required the country to develop higher educational institutes. Unprecedented growth of these institutes in the second half of 2000s was so vast that in 2008 all the counties in Iran had at least one institute. These institutes were established even in the smallest counties in order to solve the problem of transportation for its settlers, and on the other hand, developing higher education institutes in larger cities resulted in an increase in the acceptance rate of these institutes and their accessibility for the people. Moreover, lower accessibility to higher...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Keshavarz Haddad, Gholamreza (Supervisor) ; Fatemi Ardestani, Farshad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this study, we estimate the effect of overeducation on the gender pay gap in the private and public sectors, using Household Expenditure and Income Data of 1396. For this purpose, the realized matching method is used to calculate the overeducation and the Oaxaca and Blinder decomposition model to calculate wage gap. The results show that being female in both the private and public sectors has a negative effect on wages, but this effect is much stronger in the private sector. We also find that the gender wage gap among overeducated is lower than propereducated. The gender pay gap and its unexplained componentin among overeducated worker in both sectors is less than propereducated worker....

Abstract
After school tutoring education is a concept that varies widely between countries. Evidence suggests that one of the factors explaining this difference is the existence of competitive tests. Considering the fact that human capital is a crucial element in explaining the differences in income per capita and economic growth among countries, this research focuses on the effect of initial endowments of individuals on the process of human capital accumulation. One of the most important questions one can ask in this regard is whether individuals that are born in households with a low level of endowments, cannot develop their level of human capital due to a lack in the ability to obtain the factors required for their educational attainment. To answer this question, and considering the limitations of obtaining educational data, we aim to answer this question using district-level data....

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor) ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Co-Advisor)
Abstract
In this study, we estimate the relationship between the quality of previous education, the quality of current program, the condition of first semester, and the socio-demographic characteristics of students with their performance in the program. We use graduation GPA of students as a measure of their performance. Using the administrative data of graduate students at Sharif Graduate School of Management and Economics from 2000 to 2012, we find that there is a positive correlation between the previous degree GPA and the first semester GPA with graduation GPA. Furthermore, in our sample the GPA of male students is on average lower than the GPA of female students. At last, we find that the...

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology ; Madanizadeh, Ali (Supervisor) ; Vesal, Mohammad (Supervisor)
Abstract
In this research supply and demand factors regarding skill premium, ratio of revenue of college to non-college workers, in years 1984 to 2012 have been investigated. Three periods 1984 to 1995, 1995 to 2005 and 2015 to 2012 can be identified. In all three periods relative supply of college workers has increased. Demand in the periods have been constant, increasing and decreasing respectively and with the effect of demand has led to decreasing, increasing and decreasing trend of skill premium in these periods respectively. Share of low skilled sectors like construction, trade and agriculture in second period declined which led to increased demand for high skilled labor .An opposite effect...
