    Unilateralization of MMIC distributed amplifiers

    Abstract
    This paper presents an unilateralization technique for distributed amplifiers (DAs) based on the transformer coupling between the gate and drain lines. Theoretical analysis of the DA indicates that the voltage waves in the gate and drain lines can be described by a system of linear partial differential equations. The transformer coupling between the lines allows for cancellation of the reverse transmission coefficient of the system. There is an optimal value for the coupling coefficient between the lines that unilateralizes the DA.     A practical coplanar Josephson junction left-handed transmission line based on a step-edge junction technique is proposed in high-temperature superconductor technology and analyzed by electromagnetic simulations. The layout is designed for monolayer Yttrium Barium Copper Oxide thin film fabrication process. The propagation stopbands are tunable by controlling bias currents of Josephson junction arrays acting as parallel inductors for unit cells of the transmission line.     Abstract
    The transmission-line analogy of the planar electromagnetic reflection problem is exploited to obtain a transmission-line model that can be used to design effective, robust, and wideband interference-based matching stages. The proposed model based on a new definition for a scalar impedance is obtained by using the reflection coefficient of the zeroth-order diffracted plane wave outside the photonic crystal. It is shown to be accurate for in-band applications, where the normalized frequency is low enough to ensure that the zeroth-order diffracted plane wave is the most important factor in determining the overall reflection.     Abstract
    A simple transmission line model is presented to emulate field behavior in a one dimensional metallic grating in TE polarization. The proposed model is based on the fact that pairs of adjacent metallic strips in the structure act as a parallel plate waveguide supporting TE guided modes for low enough frequencies. The effect of fringing fields is also included and a very good approximate model is obtained to simulate metallic gratings in TE polarization

    A dual-band neutralization technique based on the transformer feedback between the drain and the gate of a transistor is presented. The drain and gate bias lines of the transistor are realized as multiorder LC networks. Transformer coupling between the inductors of the two networks can be used to concurrently neutralize the gate-drain capacitance of the transistor at multiple frequencies. Moreover, these frequencies can be placed close together to achieve wideband neutralization.     Abstract
    Properly terminating a transmission line, in order to transfer the maximum available power to the load, is an important issue. The problem, fully analyzed in linear lines, is still considered as a persisting problem in the area of nonlinear transmission lines (NLTLs). In this paper, an accurate analysis is presented which gives a closed-form formula for the matching efficiency of the NLTLs. Using this analysis, optimal resistive terminating load for the NLTLs was extracted. However, there is no integrated mathematical basis, which predicts adequately the generated waveforms on an NLTL and those delivered to the load.     This paper presents analysis of electric field distribution and optimization of C-type corona rings for 400 kV V-insulator strings composed of ceramic insulator units which are the most common configuration of overhead transmission lines.     Transmission line formulation is used to analyze two-dimensional low-loss metallic gratings at optical frequencies when plasmonic waves propagate in the structure. This method, like the Fourier modal method, suffers from numerical instabilities when applied to such structures. A systematic approach to avoid these instabilities is presented. These numerical artifacts are attributed to the violation of Li's inverse rule and the appearance of higher-order spurious modes.
