Impedance analysis of growth and morphology of electropolymerized polypyrrole nanocomposites [electronic resource]

, Article Journal of New Materials for Electrochemical Systems ; 2014, Volume 17, Number 2 Torabi, M. (Morteza) ; Sadrnezhaad, S. K ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Pure polypyrrole (PPy), PPy/Al2O3 and PPy/SiO2 nanocomposites synthesized galvanostatically using different polymerization charges. Electrochemical impedance measurements of pure polypyrrole revealed that the film thickness affected the impedance responses. The characteristic frequencies vs. film thickness that obtained using Cole-Cole plots showed that electrodeposition mechanism changed from 3D to 1D after nuclei overlapping for pure PPy. Analysis of the nanocomposites impedance spectrums revealed no changes during the film growth, i.e. deposition continues 3D even after nuclei overlapping. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) confirmed the impedance results and showed that the morphology of...

    Abstract
PbS on Pb thin film (Pb/PbS) was deposited on conductive glass (CG) substrate (CG/Pb/PbS) using electrochemical techniques to investigate the Schottky junction in solution. The CG/Pb/PbS electrode was investigated by different techniques based on thermionic emission theory. Electrochemical cell consisted of the CG/Pb/PbS as a working electrode in an alkaline solution showed character of the Schottky junction. Reduction and oxidation of H2O on the CG/Pb/PbS electrode were enhanced under illumination. Water photo splitting is the main process. Study of linear sweep voltammetry at around open circuit potential (OCP) allowed proposing a model based on the Schottky junction which is charged at...

    , Article Analytica Chimica Acta ; Vol. 836, issue , July , 2014 , p. 34-44 ; ISSN: 00032670 Fayazfar, H ; Afshar, A ; Dolati, M ; Dolati, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
For the first time, a new platform based on electrochemical growth of Au nanoparticles on aligned multi-walled carbon nanotubes (A-MWCNT) was developed for sensitive lable-free DNA detection of the TP53 gene mutation, one of the most popular genes in cancer research. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to monitor the sequence-specific DNA hybridization events related to TP53 gene. Compared to the bare Ta or MWCNT/Ta electrodes, the synergistic interactions of vertically aligned MWCNT array and gold nanoparticles at modified electrode could improve the density of the probe DNA attachment and resulting the sensitivity of the DNA sensor greatly. Using EIS, over the extended...

    , Article ACS Photonics ; Vol. 1, issue. 4 , March , 2014 , pp. 323-330 ; ISSN: 23304022 Parand, P ; Samadpour, M ; Esfandiar, A ; Iraji Zad, A ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
PbS nanoparticles were in situ deposited on graphene sheets by a successive ionic liquid adsorption and reaction method to prepare a graphene/PbS composite counter electrode for CdS/CdSe quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSCs). Under 1 sun illumination, the cells with graphene/PbS counter electrodes (CEs) show a maximum energy conversion efficiency of 2.63%, which is remarkably higher than that of those employing PbS (1.28%) or graphene (0.23%) CEs. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy analysis shows that graphene/PbS composite counter electrodes have lower charge-transfer resistance at the interface of the CE and the polysulfide redox electrolyte, compared to those cells with PbS and...

    Abstract
Sulfur doped and pure micro-nanoporous TiO2 film were synthesized with PEO method to produce a film with a high surface area for photocatalysis applications. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was carried out in order to determine the corrosion and electrochemical properties of the produced layer. It was found that although the barrier layer resistance decreases with the voltage, the layers porosity and consequently the surface area increases. Finally the XRD and DRS spectrums were correlated with...

    Abstract
The corrosion behavior of different grades of commercial aluminum such as AA1040, AA5083, AA6060 and AA7075 in ZnO-containing 4 M NaOH has been determined by using open circuit potential-time measurements (OCP), galvanostatic and potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive analysis of X-ray (EDAX) reveal that ZnO produces the inhibition effect by the formation of a zinc-containing deposit layer on the surface of aluminum electrodes. Although the influence of zincating on the performance of aluminum alloys and considering the amount of alloying elements such as zinc, magnesium and...

    , Article Ionics ; Volume 19, Issue 2 , May , 2013 , Pages 287-294 ; 09477047 (ISSN) Farsi, H ; Gobal, F ; Barzgari, Z ; Sharif University of Technology
    2013
    Abstract
Agglomerates of tungsten trioxide in the range of 90 nm to 1 μm are prepared by the acid precipitation method and characterized by XRD as well as scanning electron microscopy. The product when coated with platinum showed pseudocapacitance when in contact with acidic electrolyte in the potential range of 0. 1 to -0. 25 V/SCE. Capacitance in the range of 0. 014 to 0. 039 F cm-2 exhibiting moderate potential dependencies measured through both chronopotentiometry and impedance spectroscopy is presumed to be due to the insertion/de-insertion of protons into the lattice of tungsten trioxide. Equivalent circuit consisting of parallel simulators of mass transfer and capacitor charging...

    Abstract
Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was successfully immobilized on amine functionalized TiO 2-coated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (NH 2-TiO 2-CNTs) by a convenient and efficient method. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry and amperometry were applied to characterize the HRP/NH 2-TiO 2-CNT nano-composite. These techniques showed that the NH 2-TiO 2-CNTs greatly enhance the electron transfer between HRP and the modified electrode. Owing to the redox reaction of the electroactive centre of HRP, the HRP/NH 2-TiO 2-CNTs modified electrode exhibited a pair of quasi-reversible peaks with a peak-to-peak separation (ΔE p) of 70.6mV and a formal potential (E 0′) of -367.65mV (versus...

    Abstract
Multi-walled carbon nanotubes decorated with Fe 3O 4 nanoparticles (Fe 3O 4NPs/MWCNT) were prepared and used to construct a novel biosensor for the simultaneous detection of adenine and guanine. The direct electro-oxidation of adenine and guanine on the modified electrode were investigated by linear sweep voltammetry. The results indicate a remarkable increase in the oxidation peak currents together with negative shift in the oxidation peak potentials for both adenine and guanine, in comparison to the bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE). The surface morphology and nature of the composite film deposited on GCE were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy,...
