    The effects of CaF2 in mica glass-ceramics

    Abstract
    Different concentrations of CaF2 were incorporated in mica glass-ceramics to evaluate their effects on the crystallization and microstructure. The kinetics of phase transformations, and the microstructures of the final crystalline phase were found to be dependent on the concentration of nucleation agents. The results showed that CaF2 in high concentration had a synergistic effect and enhanced the formation of interlocked mica crystals. Non-isothermal DTA experiments showed that the crystallization activation energies of base glasses were changed in the range of 235-405 kJ/mol, while the crystallization activation energies of samples with addition of CaF2 were changed in the range of 419-747...

    Abstract
    SiO2-CaO-MgO glass and glass-ceramic powder doped with Nd 3+ were synthesized with sol-gel method. Tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS), Ca(NO3)2·4H2O, Mg(NO 3)2·6H2O, Nd(NO3) 3·6H2O, ethanol, distilled water, and HNO 3 were used as starting materials. The synthesized powder's properties were examined with simultaneous thermal analysis (STA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The STA curves showed that the softening point and crystallization temperatures were shifted to higher temperatures with increasing dopant content.     Formation of machinable glass-ceramic in the system MgO-SiO 2-Al2O3-K2O-B2O 3-F with and without addition of MgF2 has been investigated. Crystallization of glass sample was done by controlled thermal heat treatment at nucleation and crystallization temperatures.     Formation of transparent glass-ceramic in the system MgO-SiO 2-Al 2O 3-K 2O-B 2O 3-F with and without addition of LiF and NaF has been investigated. Crystallization of glass-sample was conducted by controlled thermal heat-treatment, at determined nucleation and crystallization temperatures. In this regard, the effects of addition of LiF and NaF were investigated on the crystallization behavior and transparency of the samples.     Abstract
    Effect of NaF on crystallization kinetics, microstructure, and mechanical properties of mica glass ceramics were investigated by the differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and microhardness tests. Non-isothermal DTA experiments showed that the crystallization activation energies of base glasses are changed in the range of 235-246 KJ/mol, while the crystallization activation energies of samples with addition of NaF are changed in the range of 263-367 KJ/mol.     Abstract
    Foaming and crystallisation behaviours of compacted glass powders based on a diopside glass-ceramic composition were investigated using the sintering route. The foaming agent was 2 wt.% SiC particles. The effect of PbO on the foaming ability of glasses was investigated. The results showed that the addition of PbO not only improved the foaming ability, by improving the wettability of the glass-SiC particles but also increased the crystallisation temperature and widened the temperature interval between the dilatometric softening point and the onset of crystallisation. The glass-SiC wetting angle was decreased from 85°for the lead-free glass, to 55°for the glass that contains 15 wt.% PbO

    Abstract
    The influence of Zr 2 on the crystallization behavior, microstructure, and machinability of SiO 2-Al 2O 3-MgO-K 2O-B 2O 3-F glasses was investigated. The crystallization of the glass-ceramic was markedly affected by addition of ZrO 2. These glasses crystallize more rapidly. The number of mica crystals increases, whereas the size of the mica crystals decreases drastically. Machining of these glass-ceramics was found to be good, as confirmed by a drilling test using conventional steel tools. Such mechanical properties are attributable to the microstructure of these glass-ceramics. Very fine crystals are homogeneously distributed in glass matrix

    The crystallization behavior of fluorphlogopite, a glass-ceramic in the MgO-SiO2-Al2O3-K2O-B 2O3-F system, was studied by substitution of Li 2O for K2O in the glass composition. DTA, XRD and SEM were used for the study of crystallization behavior, formed phases and microstructure of the resulting glass-ceramics.     Non-isothermal differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to study the nucleation and crystallization behavior of mica glass-ceramics with LiF as nucleating agent. The models enabled establishing the kinetic parameters for crystal growth of individual phases. The activation energies for crystal growth were found to be in the range of 161-301 KJ/mol, 416-424 KJ/mol, and 583-1011 KJ/mol for base glasses, samples with substitution of Li2O for K2O and samples with addition of LiF, respectively.     Abstract
    The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of P 2O5 particle size distribution on the crystalline phases and microstructure of lithium disilicate glass-ceramics derived from the TiO2-ZrO2-Li2O-CaO-Al2O 3-SiO2 system for dentistry applications. The samples were made via fusion and casting procedure. Crystallisation as well as the morphology and microstructure of the samples were investigated using X-ray diffraction, differential scanning calorimetric and scanning electron microscopy.     In this study, Li2O-TiO2-P2O5-x(Fe2O3) (x = 0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5 weight part) glass and glass-ceramics were synthesized through conventional melt-quenching method and subsequently heat treatment. Glass samples were studied by UV–visible spectroscopy and crystallized samples were characterized by differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffractometry and field emission scanning electron microscopy.     Abstract
    In the present study, a bioactive silicate-phosphate glass-ceramic scaffold was fabricated via the polymer-derived ceramics (PDC) method. K2HPO4 phosphate salt was used as the P2O5 precursor in this method. The effect of K2HPO4 wt% and heat treatment temperatures (900–1100 °C) was evaluated. It was observed that although increasing the wt% of K2HPO4 led to the formation of scaffolds with higher densities and strengths, it could also increase the formation of the calcium phase, which could result in improper release behavior of scaffolds.     The structural integrity of the sealant is critical for the reliability of solid oxide cells (SOCs) stacks. In this study, elastic modulus (E), hardness (H) and fracture toughness (KIC) of a rapid crystallizing glass of BaO–CaO–SiO2 system termed “sealant G” are reported as determined using an indentation test method at room temperature. A wide range of indentation loads (1 mN–10 N) was used to investigate the load-dependency of these mechanical properties. Values of 95 ± 12 GPa, 5.8 ± 0.2 GPa and 1.15 ± 0.07 MPa m0.5 were derived for E, H and KIC using the most suitable indentation loads. To address this issue, in the current study, 8YSZ coating is applied on the Crofer22 APU steel via sol-gel and dip-coating method.
