    Abstract
Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a metal-free conjugated polymer constructed from two-dimensional sheets with a bandgap energy of 2.7 eV, which makes it an applicable and efficient visible-active photocatalyst for H2 production. In the present study, the basic concepts and principles of photocatalytic water splitting have been discussed, and a guide for the selection of appropriate photocatalysts, focusing on the g-C3N4 nanomaterials, has been proposed. Our approach is mainly concentrated on evaluating two factors, namely the solar-to-hydrogen (STH) conversion and apparent quantum yield (AQY) for different photocatalysts, to provide an in-depth analysis and a framework for solar H2...

    Abstract
In this study, adsorption of important pollutant cations on the surface of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) was investigated by density functional theory. The calculations indicated that N6 cavity surrounded by triazine units is the most probable adsorption site on this surface. The structural optimizations also predicted a planar surface for Cr3+, and Ni2+/g-C3N4 systems while the structure of the surface for other systems indicated a considerable distortion with strong dependency on the cation size. Also, g-C3N4 surface exhibited the high adsorption energies for Cr3+, As3+, and Sb3+ ions in the gas phase. However, formation energies of the metal-aquo complexes of these cations indicated...

Oxidized graphitic carbon nitride nanosheets as an effective adsorbent for organic dyes and tetracycline for water remediation

    , Article Journal of Alloys and Compounds ; Volume 809 , 2019 ; 09258388 (ISSN) Yousefi, M ; Villar Rodil, S ; Paredes, J. I ; Zaker Moshfegh, A. R ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is promising as adsorbent for water remediation as its chemical structure allows a variety of mechanisms to interact with wastewater pollutants. However, several issues, such as low specific surface area and insufficient dispersibility in water, have to be tackled to achieve a competitive performance in such use. Previous attempts to improve the features of g-C3N4as an adsorbent have relied on carbon doping and exfoliation in the solid phase by thermal expansion. Here, we demonstrate that exfoliation in the liquid phase by a combination of oxidation and sonication allows preparing g–C3N4–based materials with improved dispersibility in water, increased...

    Abstract
Cupric oxide (CuO) is a semiconductor of choice for photocathode in photoelectrochemical (PEC) applications due to its great sunlight absorption capability. However, photocorrosion is the main drawback of CuO. Herein, CuO/graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with a unique microstructure, enhanced PEC performance, and considerable photostability is synthesized under microwave irradiation. A facile, one-pot method is utilized to directly deposit the nanocomposite onto fluorine-doped tin oxide from a solution containing copper precursor and urea. Possible mechanism of CuO/g-C3N4 formation through this novel method is investigated. It is elucidated that controlled amounts of urea critically...

    Abstract
The fabrication of the C6N7 monolayer [Zhao et al., Sci. Bull. 66, 1764 (2021)] motivated us to discover the optical, structural, mechanical, and electronic properties of the C6N7 monolayer by employing the density functional theory (DFT) method. We find that the shear modulus and Young's modulus of the C6N7 monolayer are smaller than the relevant values of graphene. However, Poisson's ratio is more significant than that of graphene. Applying the PBE (HSE06) functional bandgap of the C6N7 monolayer is 1.2 (1.97) eV, and the electronic dispersion is almost isotropic around the Γ point. C6N7 is more active in the ultraviolet region as compared to the visible light region. This study provides...

The construction of binary and ternary heterojunctions has gathered attention in water remediation applications. Herein, g-C3N4, MIL-101(Fe), and MIL-101(Fe)/g-C3N4 binary composite were synthesized by in-situ growth of MIL-101(Fe) crystals along with the nanosheets of g-C3N4. The materials have been characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, DRS, PL, and BET/BJH. The highest degradation efficiency achieved using MIL-101(Fe)/g-C3N4 nanocomposite was 99.3% while the pristine g-C3N4 degraded only 40% of the pollutants by photocatalyst dosage = 0.005 g, pH = 4.8, and irradiation time = 90 min condition. This enhanced photocatalytic performance might be attributed to improved optical properties and...

    Abstract
Semiconductor-based photocatalysis is an efficient approach for degradation of organic pollutants. In this context, ZnO/g-C3N4 composite nanofibers containing carbonaceous species with different concentrations of g-C3N4 nanosheets (x = 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2, 10 wt%) noted as ZnO/carbon/(x wt%) g-C3N4 are prepared by electrospinning technique. For preparation of the composite nanofibers, bulk g-C3N4 is exfoliated to nanosheets, and then it is mixed with polyvinyl alcohol and appropriate zinc acetate content followed by electrospinning process. Thermal annealing of the as spun zinc acetate/poly(vinyl alcohol)/g-C3N4 nanosheets sample under N2 atmosphere leads to the formation of carbonaceous species...

    Abstract
Developing an efficient visible-light-driven photocatalyst is believed to be a practical solution for clean energy and environmental remediation. The present study aimed to broaden current knowledge of the graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4)-based plasmonic photocatalysts by decorating polydopamine-grafted g-C3N4 (PDA/g-C3N4) with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The nanocomposite was prepared using a facile synthesis method, while XPS and microscopy measurements confirmed the homogenous dispersion of AgNPs on PDA/g-C3N4. AgNPs successfully reduced the recombination rate of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. The calculated bandgap energy was decreased from 2.7 eV for pure g-C3N4 to 2.1 eV for...

    Abstract
The susceptible light-harvesting and tremendous reduction capability along with the potentiality (photo)electrochemical merits of the thiospinels like CuCo2S4 (CCS) bring forth appreciably an advancement in efficacious photocatalytic reactions. However, scant oxidation potential originated from 3p orbitals of sulfur atoms puts a damper on their performance and is even conducive to self-oxidation. In this research, the surfactant/template free of hierarchical CCS thiospinels was synthesized using solvothermal sulfidation of the affordable glycerate-based CuCo-alkoxide and successfully was embedded with Z-scheme V2O5 deposited on wrinkled g-C3N4 lamella (VO-UCN) in the interest of developing...

Fabrication and Evaluation of Anti-Corrosion Properties of Epoxy/Modified Graphitic Carbon Nitride (g-3N4) Nanocomposite on Mild Steel

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Hassanzadeh, Abolfazl (Author) ; Ramazani Saadatabadi, Ahmad (Supervisor)
    Abstract
In order to protect the corrosion of steel, a self-healing epoxy nanocomposite containing modified graphite carbon nitride (g-C3N4) and ZIF-67 was made along with benzotriazole (BTA) and cerium inhibitors. To increase the efficiency and also to increase the duration of use of inhibitors, it is better to load these inhibitors on containers such as MOFs. One of the useful MOFs for this purpose is ZIF-67, which has a high specific surface area that allows the transport of inhibitors with high capacity. But these containers fail after some time, so to improve the physical properties of the coating systems, g-C3N4 was also used as a mineral material, which of course was also used as a filler....
