    Abstract
A new small array of cherenkov detectors has been deployed in Tehran, 1200 m above sea level. This array contains of four tanks full of distilled water with diameter of 64 cm and height of 130 cm. The effective area of each tank is about 6.5 × 103cm2 . They are used to detect the air showers and to record the arrival time of the secondary particles. We have collected about 486643 EAS in 5270 h of observation time from Nov-2006 to May-2007. We find zenith and azimuth distribution of EAS with this array. A cosn θ distribution with n = 7.3±0.1 was obtained for zenith angle. Since this tank of distilled water is cheaper and more available than Scintillators it is preferable to use them instead...

Possibility of magnetic mass detection by the next generation of microlensing experiments

    Abstract
We study the possibility of magnetic mass detection using the gravitational microlensing technique. Recently, the theoretical effect of magnetic mass in NUT space on the microlensing light curve has been studied. It has been shown that in the low photometric signal-to-noise ratio and sampling rate of MACHO experiment light curves, no signature of the NUT factor has been found. In order to increase the sensitivity of magnetic mass detection, we propose a systematic search for microlensing events, using the currently running alert systems and complementary telescopes for monitoring Large Magellanic Clouds stars. This observation strategy provides the lowest observable limit of the NUT factor,...

Search for turbulent gas through interstellar scintillation

    , Article Proceedings of the International Astronomical Union ; Volume 7, Issue S285 , 2011 , Pages 376-378 ; 17439213 (ISSN) ; 9781107019850 (ISBN) Moniez, M ; Ansari, R ; Habibi, F ; Rahvar, S ; Griffin R. E ; Hanisch R. J ; Seaman R. L ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Stars twinkle because their light propagates through the atmosphere. The same phenomenon is expected when the light of remote stars crosses a Galactic - disk or halo - refractive medium such as a molecular cloud. We present the promising results of a test performed with the ESO-NTT, and consider its potential

Searching for galactic hidden gas through interstellar scintillation: the OSER project

    , Article Proceedings of Science, 18 August 2008 through 22 August 2008, Stockholm ; 2008 ; 18248039 (ISSN) Moniez, M ; Ansari, R ; Habibi, F ; Sharif University of Technology
    2008
    Abstract
Considering the results of baryonic compact massive objects searches through microlensing [1], cool molecular hydrogen (H2 - He) clouds should now be seriously considered as a possible major component of the Galactic hidden matter. It has been suggested that a hierarchical structure of cold H 2 could fill the Galactic thick disk [8] or halo [3], providing a solution for the Galactic hidden matter problem. This gas should form transparent "clumpuscules" of ∼ 10 AU size, with a column density of 1024-25cm-2, and a surface filling factor smaller than 1%. The OSER project (Optical Scintillation by Extraterrestrial Refractors) is proposed to search for scintillation of extra-galactic sources...

    Abstract
We present a new high signal-to-noise ratio spectroscopic survey of the Northern hemisphere to probe the Local Bubble and its surroundings using the λ5780Å and λ5797Å diffuse interstellar bands (DIBs). We observed 432 sightlines to a distance of 200 pc over a duration of three years. In this study, we establish the λ5780 and λ5797 correlations with Na I, Ca II and EB-V, for both inside and outside the Local Bubble. The correlations show that among all neutral and ionized atoms, the correlation between Ca ii and λ5780 is stronger than its correlation with λ5797, suggesting that λ5780 is more associated with regions where Ca+ is more abundant. We study the λ5780 correlation with λ5797, which...
