, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Farzam, Mohammad-Hossein (Author) ; Bayat-Sarmadi, Siavash (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Security of cryptographic devices lies amongst the most important issues in the field of hardware security. It is frequently seen that in the process of designing cryptographic systems insufficient attention is paid to the physical implementation details. This is happening while a lot of secret information is known to be leaked through side-channels such as power consumption, electromagnetic emission and execution time. Side-channel attacks are able to reveal secret keys by using these side-channel leakages. Additionally, side-channel attacks are one of the most powerful but low-cost attacks that put the security of cryptographic systems in vain. It can be claimed that the most dangerous...

Trustworthiness Improvement of Integrated Circuits against Hardware Trojans

, Ph.D. Dissertation Sharif University of Technology Farajipour Ghohroud, Najmeh (Author) ; Hessabi, Shaahin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Most hardware manufacturers outsource the fabrication of their integrated circuits (ICs) to third party foundries in order to reduce the cost of silicon chip fabrication. This increases the vulnerability to malicious activities. Third party foundries may modify the circuit’s design or its physical parameters. These modifications are known as Hardware Trojan Horses (HTHs). An adversary can insert a Trojan in the design to disable and/or destroy a system, or leak information to the adversary. Several Methods are proposed for HTH Detection, and Design for Hardware Trust (DfHT) in the last decade. However, the lack of a comprehensive approach in this area is sensed. Moreover, the previously...

Design and Efficient Hardware Implementation of Spiking Neural Networks on FPGA

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Amirshahi, Alireza (Author) ; Hashemi, Matin (Supervisor)
    Abstract
Spiking Neural Networks(SNN) are networks which are consisted of layers of neurons, like other typical artificial neural networks. The main difference between SNN and other neural networks is the type of data transportation among neurons which is done by spikes. Spiking neural networks and their models are considered as the nearest networks and neurons to animals’ nervous systems. In aspects of hardware implementation, the type of data transportation in SNN causes them to be ultra-low power. So, implementation of these networks on chips like FPGA and also usage of SNN in applications with high processing load have startling germination, recently. In this work, we have tried to propose some...

    Hardware Implementation of IDS Method

, M.Sc. Thesis Sharif University of Technology Tarkhan, Mahdi (Author) ; Bagheri Shouraki, Saeed (Supervisor)
    Abstract
ALM (Active Learning Method) is based on fuzzy concepts, striving for human-like information processing. Typical fuzzy methods for control and modeling applications rely on linguistic processing with membership functions of the kind in fuzzy rules. ALM, however, processes multiple features of a target by converting each into patterns. This simulates the human approach to the acquisition of knowledge from complex source targets in that it focuses on each feature of the target and processes that information in pattern-like images rather than utilizing numerical interpretations. In ALM, the ink drop spread (IDS) method has been proposed as a means of obtaining useful information...
