Modified carrageenan. 1. H-carragPAM, a novel biopolymer-based superabsorbent hydrogel [electronic resource]

    , Article Journal of Bioactive and Compatible Polymers ; September 2005 Vol. 20 no. 5 475-490 Hosseinzadeh, H. (Hossein) ; Pourjavadi, A ; Mahdavinia, G. R ; Zohuriaan-Mehr, , M. J
    Abstract
A novel kappa-carrageenan (C)-based superabsorbing hydrogel was synthesized through graft copolymerization of acrylamide (AAm) onto a C substrate in the presence of a crosslinking agent. The crosslinked C-poly(AAm) polymer graft was partially hydrolyzed in alkaline medium to yield a superabsorbent resin, H-carragPAM. The resin structure was confirmed using FTIR spectroscopy. The variables of graft copolymerization (monomer, initiator, polysaccharide and crosslinker concentration, reaction temperature and time as well as stirrer speed) that affected on the ultimate water-swelling capacity were optimized. The time-temperature variation of the copolymerization was investigated in terms of the...

Nonlinear oscillation analysis of a pendulum wrapping on a cylinder

    , Article Scientia Iranica ; Volume 19, Issue 2 , 2012 , Pages 335-340 ; 10263098 (ISSN) Mazaheri, H ; Hosseinzadeh, A ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, the nonlinear oscillation of a pendulum wrapping and unwrapping on two cylindrical bases is studied, and an analytical solution is obtained using the multiple scales method. The equation of motion is derived based on an energy conservation technique. By applying the perturbation method to the differential equation, the nonlinear natural frequency of the system is calculated, along with its time response. Analytical results are compared with numerical findings and good agreement is found. The effect of large amplitude and radius of cylinders on system frequency is evaluated. The results indicate that as the radius of the cylinder increases, the system frequency is increased....

Analytical approach to dynamic and vibration analysis of a spherical ball under contact stress

    Abstract
This paper presents a nonlinear model to illustrate the effect of contact stress in the vibration behavior of mechanical components, especially rotating systems. The problem is considered in the case of the vertical vibration of a sphere on a plate. The Hertzian contact theory is used to obtain the relationship between contact force and the deflection of the mass center of the sphere. Modeling the system by a mass and a nonlinear spring, the vibration equation of the mass center of the sphere is derived. The method of LindstedtPoincar is implemented to solve the equation of motion, and obtain vibration characteristics under a compressive preload. The dependency of frequency on several...

In this paper, nonlinear oscillation of a pendulum wrapping and unwrapping around two cylindrical bases is studied and an analytical solution is obtained using multiple scales method. Equations of motion are derived based on energy conservation technique. Applying perturbation method on the equations, nonlinear natural frequency of the system is calculated along with its time response. Analytical results are compared with numerical findings and good agreement is found. Effect of nonlinearity due to large amplitude and radius of cylinders on the system frequency is evaluated. Results indicate that as the radius of cylinder is increased, nonlinear frequency is enhanced. Initial amplitude plays...

Nonlinear vibration analysis of a micro beam exposed to an external flow

    , Article ASME 2011 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition, IMECE 2011 ; Volume 7, Issue PARTS A AND B , 2011 , Pages 643-646 ; 9780791854938 (ISBN) Mazaheri, H ; Hosseinzadeh, A ; Ahmadian, M. T ; Barari, A ; Sharif University of Technology

    Abstract
In this paper, nonlinear vibration of a micro cantilever exposed to a constant velocity flow is studied. In order to obtain vibration frequency and time response of the micro beam the variational iteration method is used as a novel tool for solving nonlinear differential equations. Results of the analytical solution are compared with those obtained by Runge-Kutta method which shows very good agreement between them. Results confirm that frequency of vibration depends on the flow velocity. Also, the high sensitivity of the vibration frequency to the flow velocity means that it can be an effective indicator of velocity

Studying soft X-Rays emitted by SUT-PF using a cylindrical bent crystal spectrometer

    , Article Journal of Fusion Energy ; Volume 35, Issue 2 , 2016 , Pages 346-351 ; 01640313 (ISSN) Etaati, G. R ; Hosseinzadeh, A ; Nazmabadi, M ; Sharif University of Technology
    Abstract
Plasma focus is a copious source of electrons, ions, neutrons, and X-rays. SUT-PF is a 7 kJ Mather type plasma focus device. In order to study soft X-rays emitted by this device a bent crystal spectrometer has been designed and constructed based on Johann method. Before recording spectral lines, using a photodiode detector and a pinhole camera, optimum parameters for maximum emission of soft X-rays have been studied and registered. Results show that ionized Argon atomic lines mostly have wavelengths between 3 and 4 Å. Among them 1s2–1s2p transition with a wavelength of 3.943 Å represents the most intense line

Effect of angular position on the quality of dense plasma focus-based additive layer manufactured molybdenum coatings

    Abstract
The present research aims at depositing molybdenum on stainless steel substrate using dense plasma focus (DPF) device. The varying parameter was the angular position of substrate surface from the anode tip. The deposited layers were characterized using various analyses such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and microhardness measurements. Microstructural observations revealed that the deposited coatings had rough surfaces containing holes as well as a stripe-featured structure covering the whole surface including the interior regions of the holes and the regions among them....

    Abstract
We have investigated the piezoelectric response of the hydrogenated graphene oxide (H-G-SiO2) stacks both experimentally and theoretically. The piezoresponse force microscopy method and density-functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to study the piezoresponse effect of this structure from both experimental and computational point of views. A mono-layer graphene, made by chemical vapour deposition method, is deposited on Si/SiO2 substrate and its surface is then functionalized with hydrogen atoms. The vertical piezoresponse, observed by piezoresponse force microscopy, is measured to be about 2146 pC N-1, that is comparable to the reported state of the art piezoelectric materials such...

Development of a shell superelement for large deformation and free vibration analysis of composite spherical shells

    Abstract
Finite element analysis of huge and/or complicated structures often requires long times and large computational expenses. Superelements are huge elements that exploit the deformation theory of a specific problem to provide the capability of discretizing the problem with minimum number of elements. They are employed to reduce the computational cost while retaining the accuracy of results in FEM analysis of engineering problems. In this research, a new shell superelement is presented to study linear/nonlinear static and free vibration analysis of spherical structures with partial or full spherical geometries that exist in many industrial applications. Furthermore, this study investigates the...
